Are these original factory drilled holes for the Pratt muffling system ? Placing is right . In other photos of this drum I do not see holes at the bottom area of shell but assume they are there .

I've asked the seller if there were more holes on the bottom of the drum but have not had an answer yet . I'm thinking there are and these holes are where a Pratt muffler was mounted , but for some reason removed it . Position of wholes are exactly where a Pratt would be located . As said earlier drum is like new otherwise .

Since this is an 18" bass drum the positioning is deceiving. The center hole for the tension knob looks a little off center, but the counter sunk holes to hold the mechanism look good. It also appears to be the right distance from the edge. Here's a couple pictures of my Pratt on a 50's 3-ply 22" bass drum for comparison. Since this is a SSB drum, it will have the bigger knob, which will cover up more of the mounting screws.

The hole looks off to me and I do have a SSB 18x14 bass I can take pictures off the area in question.

After looking at this again, I think you're right Manny. The distance from the edge doesn't look correct and the center hole is not really centered between the two mounting holes. Maybe the drum shop installed the Pratt muffler at the request of the purchaser or a previous owner installed it.

It's still a Gold sparkle 18x14 bass drum! :)

Looks fine to me. Correct position, correct spacing. The center hole is a little off, but hey it's '70s Gretsch. That hole can also wear unevenly because of the pressure that the Pratt knob screw is often under. If they were holes for a tom muffler they would have been parallel to the shell's edge.

Thanks for that info . I still haven't got an answer from the seller about holes at bottom which the drum would have if originally installed with a Pratt .

By the way , this drum is part of an 18/14/12 kit this guy is selling . Drums look pristine otherwise . Original Gretsch batter heads on bass !
