Mickey set up his drums (or the studio did) differently on every episode.

Some of his set-ups were down right funny.. lol.

I wonder where his old set is now...

I worked for the same company as Mickey's sister Deborah. According to his sister, Mickey sold his house in California several years after the Monkees period. He forgot to take the TV show drum set with him. When he asked to retrieve them, the new owners said that there were no drums in their house. Eventually, someone prevailed upon the Gretsch company to give Mickey a set to replace the "lost" drums.

Also, according to his sister, Mickey's right foot was not very flexible or agile due to an early childhood illness. He felt more comfortable using his left foot on a bass drum pedal even before he really played the drums. In more rcent years, Mickey has been seen in performances playing a guitar (righty style) while singing.

No matter how far you push the envelope, it is still stationery.

Mickey did eventually learn how to play decent enough to perform live and set up his drums correctly. If I remember correctly those were Gretsch drums in the Monkees tv show. The wrecking crew played on most of the Beach Boys and The Monkees recordings. Hal Blaine playing drums on that stuff and Jim Gordon on a few cuts. Hal Blaine had a Album out called "Drums A Go Go" I think was the title, in the 60's. I would love to hear that. I wonder what happened to that old Gretsch set from the Monkees. Davy is a good friend of mine, he has spoken of sessions with Hal Blaine and Glen Campbell. I will ask him if he knows what happened to those Gretsch. I know he has the bass guitar they used,

The Monkees sign and a bunch of stuff. I still don't get it why The Beach Boy's are in the R&R hall of fame and the Monkees are not. The Monkees played there instruments live and used the same musicians as the Beach Boys on recordings. The Monkees played everything on there Headquarters album.

ANyway, I wonder if Hal Blaines set will sell for that price?

Hey, somebody refresh my memory... wasn't his "TV" kit a champagne sparkle Gretsch?

I was at that very "impressionable" age during the "Monkees" period. Was really disappointed to discover that Mickey wasn't really a drummer in the first place, but became the drummer because he "fit" the mold of character the Monkees' "brass" was looking for...

Sorry. I'm at work and anything like that is blocked by our firewall.

Thanks though. I'll give it a look later today when I get home...
