Half time show Last viewed: 3 hours ago

Well, the halftime show was better than the game, that was the worst Superbowl game in history! That's one reason I don't like Superbowls as opposed to The World Series or NBA Finals, you can't afford to have a bad game. Denver didn't show up, they didn't seem to have their mind in the game from the very first snap.

I liked Bruno's old school feel. Horns section dancing along. Very much an entertainer in the old style, new music. Red Hot Chili Peppers didn't do it for me either, but it didn't hurt the show. Lot's of energy.

+1 Nail hit squarely on head!

I grew up Uptown Manhattan. During the 60's I got to see a ton of shows at the Apollo Theater. This kid, Bruno Mars reminds me of that! It wasn't 'pop' at all, sounded more like a modern version of Motown.

Think, Jackie Wilson, James brown, Michael Jackson, Prince. This kid is a very talented all-around performer in that same lineage and he puts on an old-school 'Review/Show.' From the second the spot light hit him, that young man kicked a$$ and took names later.

He really reminded me of Jackie Wilson. Did you see the reaction of the girls in the audience? That says it all right there. I didn't enjoy the Peppers part much, but I was really impressed with Bruno. I'd never even heard of him before, but he knocked my socks off. Super-talented kid. Ain't heard the last of him!

John

PS - I was a bit shocked, didn't expect that kind of a blow-out. I thought final score would be -a lot- closer! Those guys were pretty evenly matched (overall team-wise) going in.

Too many great drums to list here!

I agree with that.. and I think Bruno's got it made , he's big down here and he'll be around for a long time... Very slick performer...

Gotta agree with John! Bruno Mars is the whole package! The young man can sing dance and his drumming is exceptional! Jackie Wilson with some Prince and James Brown thrown in for good measure. He's young BUT, I'd bet he's worked hard on his craft for many years. He's going to go far!

Just a drummer who loves all things about vintage drums! Nothing more, nothing less.

once the brass ceases to glitter, and the drum looses its luster, and the stage remains dark, all you have left is the timbre of family.

I'm sure to catch "heck" for this, but IMO football half-time shows should be marching bands or DBCs... so it' doesn't matter who or what, it don't cut it for me!Bill

Bill,

You sure won't catch it from me, as I also would have rather seen one of the top drum corps on the field rather than pop stars. Bruno and the RHCP's are very talented, but they're not exactly living legends. The Super Bowl half-time show should be reserved for acts who have withstood the test of time (McCartney, The Who, The Stones, Springstein, Petty, etc). Just because you're the hottest thing this year, you're not necessarily deserving of a spot on the most-watched venue on television.

Com'on, wouldn't most of you have been glued to the screen if Switzerland's "Top Secret" came out and did a 3-minute drumline solo? And I believe a university band played the half-time show at the first Super Bowl, but then again, it wasn't sold out and commercials weren't selling for 4 million dollars a minute.

I won't go buy his records but anybody Bruno's age that knows what Motown feels like and digs it enough to cop the moves of the greats gets my nod of approval. Think how many kids are going to get turned on to that stuff just from watching one segment of his live shows. Take the torch young man!

BTW. I was reading DW's free "Edge" magazine and they had a short talk with Eric Hernandez who is Brunos older brother and drummer. Apparently he takes the kit when Bruno is out front with a mic/guitar.

Believe it or else!

Some about Bruno Mars reminds me of Smoky Robinson. So I agree with the Motown and James Brown comments!

If I go the rest of my life and never see either Bruno Mars or the RHCP then I am fine with that both are great examples how how far the bar has fallen on music! Oh I thought the show was as bad as Denver!

Personally I think the chilly peppers ruined the show, they are so different than Bruno Mars. And Bruno has a great band, they were very entertaining. And hey, it started with a drum solo, you will probably never see that again in the Super Bowl, hats off to Bruno for starting the show the way he did. And dont forget that last tune with him by himself on that round platform, that was pretty classy. The guy has a good voice, a great band and can dance extremely well. I wont be running out buying his album either but to me the show was entertaining enough. Pretty tough to pick a performer that will please the whole world.

Thank you!
