Hey everyone, first post here!
About 17 years ago I bought an old Japanese drum kit from the local shop for $200. I was a 20 year old guitarist at the time, so the only thing I did to it was put a new snare skin on it and enjoyed the heck out of it.
Now that I have that kit out of storage, I'd like to get it sounding as good as possible for some recording. I'm very handy with my hands, have a full wood working shop and I'm a pretty good youtube learner.
These drums are badged "Pyramid" and the hardware matches the Japanese "Star" brand shown on this site (http://www.vintagedrumguide.com/images/hardware/japanese/star/star_layout.html).
I'm going to start with the snare and bass drum pedal.
Snare
Snare has a pretty worn out coated Ambassador batter head, and the resonant head looks to be original (thin hazy.. no-name). The lever for the strainer is missing, and the snare strips are DIY hacks. Snares themselves are 16 strand, look original. The tone control muffler thing is present and in good shape as well.
What steps would you guys take to get this drum sounding it's best again?
Kick Pedal
The kick pedal is a "Pro Pedal" that has a broken wing-bolt that holds the mallet in place. A bit squeaky, mallet has a big flat spot, and I think the tension spring is pretty stretched.
Is a replacement wing-bolt available for this somewhere? (I can measure the diameter and thread pitch) Replacement spring? Can these be rebuilt and greased?
The rest of the kit
I'll post later about the rest of the kit once I snap some pictures. Thanks for your time.
