Help ID Slingerland Snare Last viewed: 14 minutes ago

I'm trying to ID the model and approx vintage of a slingerland snare. I believe that it is around 1960. It has a 3-point strainer that is not shown in a photo as I have it apart for repair. It is part of a set that includes a base, tom tom, etc and I am trying to clean it up for sale to go to my son's college fund.

thanks

Yes, 1960 would be correct.

I am not sure of the model though.

Is it 8 lugs or is it 6?

Interesting that it has a 3 point strainer.

Is this a 13" diameter shell or 14"?

I was assuming 14", but if it is 13", it is a Bop model snare.

Is the shell 4" deep or 5" deep?

It's 6 lugs, 13" dia at the rim (12" inside the shell) and 5+" deep.

Based on the limited photo's and size provided, looks to me like a student model, or a bop to go with a jazz sized kit. What are the drum sizes for the rest of the kit?

While it has a RK muffler, it is not a RK. Around that time Slingerland mixed and matched parts, so not unusual to see a RK strainer on a drum like this, or a mahogany 3 ply shell RK for that matter. I used to have one!

Drum Kits
1965 Ludwig Clubdate Oyster Blue
1966 Ludwig Clubdate Oyster Black
1969 Ludwig BB Blue Oyster Keystone Clubdate
1971 Ludwig BB Black Oyster

Relatively uncommon drum.

5x13 Bop.

Do either of the hoops have "Slingerland" or "Radio King" engraved on them?

No, the hoops are not engraved. I will take some additional photos of the snare and the other pieces in the set this w/e and add them to the link.

The reason for my inquiries is that I am trying to sell the set. It is my son's, he doesn't play them anymore and I would prefer to put the money into his college fund.

thanks

I've added some photos to the photobucket page. The set has a 9x13 tom with a niles badge and a 16x21 base with a chicago badge. Then there are two unbadged drums that look very similar to the slingerland drums.

thanks,

Doug
