Mick - those early round badge drums had badges that were tacked on. Like this one:

http://www.ebay.com/itm/ORIGINAL-1960s-GRETSCH-ROUND-BADGE-TACK-for-TOM-DRUM-SET-LOT-T236-/360509498642?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item53f00a6512

The bass drum had a large version of the round badge that was secured with a traditional grommet. Like this one:

http://www.ebay.com/itm/ORIGINAL-1960s-GRETSCH-ROUND-BADGE-for-BASS-DRUM-SET-LOT-R97-/271101586087?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item3f1ee9eaa7

As you can see, it will cost more for two replacement badges than you paid for the drums!

Go to Precision Drums website, price out three pre-cut pieces of Gold sparkle wrap and make your orphans a kit. There is also a 16"x16" RB shell for sale on the bay:

Finish that one off, add it to the kit and you're in Round Badge Heaven.

You can use a new Maxwell Rail to complete the bass drum. It will be a dead fit for the holes.

I started my RB kit with the same three drums you have, snare, tom and bass. I added the FT later and re-wrapped the whole she-bang. This is what you can end up with: Only in Gold!

Excellent score.

That is an outstanding score. Add a floor tom and you really will be 'golden'.

Thanks John and tnsquint. I gotta' chew on this one for a while. If I keep them I hate to re-wrap them due to the tom having no defects and same with the better half of the kick. Then I have to find a ft.

Also been thinking of selling and putting the money toward a 20,12,14 set of C and C custom drums out of St.Louis.

Got a question for you guys. The bass hoops have 1 shoulder that is a flat 90 degree edge while the opposite edge has a radiused angle. Which edge goes back against the head?

Believe it or else!

Thank ya - Thank ya very much. Guess if I'd a thought about it, that makes sense. The claws have a radius where they grip on the hoop radius. And the knee bone's connected to........I got it.Cool1

From MickM

Here're 2 unused holes in front of that mount(that i'm not sure what it is). The larger hole has a dark/un-faded spot the size of a round badge/hole is grommet size. Smaller hole behind it. I have no clue about these.

Hey Mick - the big hole is for the round badge and grommet. The cymbal mount doesn't belong there. There used to be two holes there (the small one in front of the badge hole and the one that the cymbal mount is in,) where a diamond plate cymbal holder is supposed to be. Look at the photo of my RB kit. See the diamond plate next to the badge on my kick? That's what's 'supposed to' be there.

I'm afraid they enlarged the front bolt hole for the diamond plate to accommodate the cymbal holder. That hole would need to be filled, redrilled and an original diamond plate installed.

I think Purdie wants them so he can create that tangerine sparkle kit he's been wanting!

If you decide to sell those pieces, you won't have trouble finding buyers. I might suggest re-wrapping the kick drum to its former glory and then find a 14x14 or 16x16 orphan. Either way you made a great purchase.

And by the way, Purdie absolutely knows what he is doing.
