From jccabinets

+ 1 on the Gibson. I own one almost exactly like that one. The inly on the neck is dots, only difference I can see. Great ax!

got one too, but mine don't have the whammy bar and i stripped off the maroon to natural wood (body only) shortly after i got it. i know, WRONG thing to do on a guitar. i was just a stupid teenager then. still got the guitar tho.

If you guys need any help ID's your Gibson's just drop me a PM, would be glad to help. The one in the pic probably a 68-70 with that large pickguard and plastic bridge saddles.

The more valuable ones (not necessarily "better") will have a small pickguard and nickel hardware. Would be 61-64. Like this...

jccabinets,

With dot inlays, yours most likely would have started out as an SG Special with single coils if it is from the 60's. Very cool.

Surrounded by drummers here! (I am a guitarist.)

Here we go, I included a pic of my beloved Slingerland drum kit to keep the supject on drums also. But this guitar was sold to me from a buddy around 1983 and it was old then. No one has really ever apraised it for me or even pinpoint a year or modle. It is just called the old SG. Its a great insturment, works fine. The tuners are Grovers I put on it back in 1984, I still have the origional ones. They are like ivory or something. THink Ill dig them up and reinstall them now that Im thinking about it. The rest of the guitar is completely origional. Also I think someone once said the pick ups were humbckers? Not sure about that, as you can tell, I dont know much about guitars.

Based on those tom holders & lugs, it might be a Reuter or Reuther MIJ kit. I played on one a few years ago, had decent heads on it, tuned it up & it sounded fine. The head of the group played gtr/vocs/keys & had it set up in his studio where we rehearsed. He'd added some A. Zildjian cymbals & an Acrolite, and it worked very well.
