I'm looking to buy my first kit and I found this one on Craigslist, listed at "vintage Pearl drum set". Talked the guy down from $350 to $275 but now I'm not sure if it's worth that. The kick pedal and the h.hat pedal look just like the p-800 from mid-80s Pearl export kits. There are not identifiable badges on snare or toms (I asked the seller). Pearl is written on the tom mounts. The lugs look cheap and the snare cheaper. There's obviously a wrap on which could signify someone genuinely caring for a kit/aesthetic but it also suggests trying to dress up a junky kit (lipstick on a pig). I guess it could just be piecemeal. The seller is an hour and a half away so it's not convenient to check them out. I'm guessing at least part of it's vintage and that's why I'm posting here. Any help is appreciated.

I want a better look at that snare. Is that a supra? If so, then $275 for that and a big bunch of extras (read "rest of kit") ain't a bad deal.
Snare Looks like Supra:-) like R.Adam McHugh says:-)
So this Looks like quite a good deal;-)

Thanks for the replies. If I ask for more photos of the snare, what should I specifically ask for? Other than better lighting. Is there any other part of the set that I could get a picture of that would help ID the whole thing?
A close-up wouldn't go astray. Need to see badge, shell seam, lugs, strainer, hoops etc. They look suspiciously like Ludwig Imperial lugs to me, although my eyes aren't what they used to be...
Ok, I got the pics back. The keystone is blurry but I don't want to trouble this guy for any more pics unless there's real doubt. I also included the hardware on the toms because I'd still like to know about the set as well as the snare.
Definitely a Supraphonic snare, no mistake, though I've never seen a keystone badge placed quite like that before - so cut off by the hoop. Looks like the serial number has seven digits, which is odd as I thought the b/o badges kicked in while they were still in six digits. Unless this is a modern drum, with a new keystone badge... Hmmm...mutter mutter... I think we need some assistance here.
The lugs on the toms look like Pearl Export to me. Might be better to post all of this in the Non-USA section, there are plenty of MIJ experts there who can give you much more detailed info!
But my advice would be to buy it - you can certainly pay more than $275 just for that type of snare alone!
Snare looks to be an 80's Monroe era Keystone, definitely not 60's. The drums are not Pearl. They are a Taiwanese beginner drum kit with a Pearl logo drum head, and 80's-90's era Pearl hardware.
Could be any number of those Taiwan imports, such as Trak, SWB, RB, etc.
They have also been stripped of their original wrap, which was no doubt a cheapo Red, Blue, Black, Silver, or any other "neutral" solid color..Snare is worth more than the drums themselves..
Thanks a bunch. So even if the drums were made of wet cardboard I should take this deal because I can build my set around a quality snare like a supraphonic? Does it reduce the quality at all if it's an 80s build from the Monroe plant?
No, the build date, nor location affect the quality of the drum. The shell and lugs look dirty, but not pitted. It should clean up like a dream. That is a bonus. The 3 things that will affect value is conditiom, originality of the parts, and if the shell would be Ludalloy, or Brass. The bottom rim does not appear to be original, but ill let the true experts chime in on the badge location and hardware.
I would agree that the snare value would be close to what he's agreed to sell you the kit for.
