From PTMatt

From talking with the seller they did not know what kind of set it was but went to their local gutiar center. They were told that the set is from the 50's but they did not know what kind it was either just it was a jazz master set.

The guys at GC are morons when it comes to vintage gear, if it ain't made in China, they are clueless.

Vertical grain Luan... MIJ

I figure late 50's early 60's. Nice kit. I like the flip-lever operated tone control on the floor tom. Interesting idea. Neat kit. I like it. I'd cut new edges on it and play the Bejebus out of em.

Too many great drums to list here!

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

I've run into something like that at one in Atlanta. They would not sell me a Ludwig acrolite off some cheap shells they had in their used area.

The "made in ____" on the strainer would confirm it but my eyes just can't make out the last word.

Nice little set you have..Your set is made by Pearl in the mid 60's-{1965-66}-Shell are more likly 4 ply with rings. The tom mount and wing nuts on the cymbal arm points to Pearl. As far as a name hard to tell you that Pearl sold these sets all over the U.S. and used 50 names on them. The badge's were likely a sticker badge at the air vent grommet and looks like none are on the drum.Pearl used that strainer in 65-66 its one of the badest one made by Pearl that why they only used it for about a year.If you look at the playe on the strainer it will say made in Japan....Mikey

I have a steel shell snare with the same snare throw off which is very interesting and the reason I bought the drum in the first place. Mine does not have the "Made in Japan" tag on it and I have not found any makers makrs that would confirm a maker one way or the other. I have had some 50's era Pearl drums and they were clearly labeled and the throw off didn't look anything like this. On the plus side, the one I have is a screaming little snare drum. Love the throw off on it.

Offer the guy $300. See how far down you can get him to come off that 'full-retail' $400. asking price. Show him the money if you have to. Sometimes, waving Benjamins in front of the seller helps him to get off the dime for fear of losing the sale. Talk him down a bit. Then it's a good score.
