Hi,

This is an early 1960's Slingerland Hollywood Ace in blue sparkle. It has a 3 ply shell (maple, poplar, mahogany) and has a rapid strainer. The strainer is usually located to the left of the badge, however this one has it on the right. Nothing to worry about; I also have one with the strainer on the right of the badge. They usually sell for between $150-$300 here in the US. Great sounding drum!

Ciao,

James

Hey!

The seller just sent me some pics of the snare... Do you think are there cracks in the shell near the hole for the lugs?

I'm a bit "scared" of that.. I don't want to buy a 50years old snare which is cracked...

Looks like there are very slight pressure cracks in the inner ply of mahogany, but Im not sure this is a big deal. Maybe loosen the pressure on some of those screws and dab some wood filler or wood glue in the crack....You may not even have to do that, but I could be wrong.

Interested to hear the others thoughts on this.

Most or at least many Slingerland snares have a little cracking or bubbling on the inside ply. It's not an issue with Slingerland drums...it's very common. I'd leave it alone. It would not keep me from buying that drum.

One thing to be concerned about is the 'P' stamp. I pretty sure that stands for pearl... which defines the wrap finish. This snare is not pearl and might have been re-covered... this is if originality is a concern.
