From KCDrumDad

The timing of the first Square badge is approximately 1977-1978.Two comments: 1. The information in Rob Cook and John Sheridan's book about approximate years of use and serial number ranges is from my dating guide. All dates that I have expressed are approximations and should not be treated as absolutes. One can easily misinterpret information if it is read out of context and without understanding how the information was developed. This is an error that many have made with drum dating guides in the past and I feel a need to comment on this issue so that the same mistakes are not made here.2. Rob and John had my permission to use information from my dating guide in their book. I would suggest that it is not good practice to scan and post copyright protected images without the authors' permission.(getting off soap box now)Rick

my apologies Mr. Gier

I never intended to break any rules

just trying to help a fellow Gretsch owner out .

I own and thoroughly enjoyed your thesis and absolutely meant no disrespect

tiburon - That serial number fits with the badge style and the general time frame of 1980.

gvdadrummasum - No worries. I don't know the board's rules, but as I indicated, you hit on one issue that I get on my soapbox about. I am glad that you liked my paper and Rob and John's book. I very much like Rob and John's effort myself. I have a paper coming out soon on Ludwig, which assesses the current guides and how they are used (and misused). It includes new dating guides for 1963-1984 developed based upon over 5,000 drums. It also presents a guide for Standards 1968-1973 which have been largely ignored up until now.

Collecting information about the following for ongoing research projects:
Gretsch drums with serial numbers,
Ludwig Keystone and B/O badge drums with serial numbers and date stamps,
Ludwig Standards from 1968-73, and
Ludwigs with paper labels from 1971-72

This is the only drum that has some damage from rubbing against the snare.

Do you think this is repairable ?
