no one has any experience with high bond double sided tape?
high bond double sided tape or 3M 30nf Last viewed: 6 minutes ago
I have used the "Jammin Sam's" high bond double sided tape (as supplied by Sam), at the ends/joints of hoop inlays. (two years & no problem).
I have also used a product we have here named "Bostik MDF Glue" the Bostik dries clear normally but I add some "Black Stamp Pad Ink" to it as about a 5% additive.. it then dries to a really jet black finish.. I do loudspeaker recone work as part of my "Day Gig" & this glue has never let go on paper/butyll rubber/ plastics/ wood/ or painted surfaces.
Note.. the Black ink thing, I have used on fresh painted black hoops only as a safeguard against spillage.. luckily I don't spill any usually.
"Inset" hoop inlays generally don't see much action, so a light smear of a "Clear drying" contact adhesive on one surface (Eg. underside of the inlay) is enough.
Cheers

Elmer's works great on satins or swirl wrap's on drums and inlay's.I have not used it on pearl finish's at all..As far a double stick tape.I have been useing this type of tape for 30+ years at West Coast Drums and at O.C.D.P. on all the drums we made over the years, on inlay's and seam's on drums.I will get the name of the tape later today when iam out in my shop. I get it at a shop in santa Ana,ca The tape comes in size's from 1/4" to 4'' wide. Its not cheap per a roll. But is the best tape i have ever used. It's the same tape that they used to hold on the outer wings on airplane's.....Mikey
I used the double-sided from drum foundry on a snare, and it's held well so far (been maybe 5 years?).
Well, as promised here are the results from my inlay installation. I used the Titebond 100% Silicon Sealant. Cut the tip of the tube just enough to achieve the smallest hole possible. Applied a 1/8” or so bead right down the center of the inlay groove. Held the hoop in left hand, the inlay strip was laying on a table, stretched out. Simply inserted the inlay in the groove and pressed it in little by little while turning the hoop. I cut the inlay so it did not overlap at the end. Then just went around the whole thing and check to see if it was centered and pressed down. I did have a tiny amount of squeeze out but that was easily wiped away with mineral spirits and a cloth.
The best part is, no clamps needed, just press in and let sit overnight. And I sincerely believe that in my case, with the inlay not being flat, that the silicon worked very well as a filler under the inlay where it did not contact the hoop. Elmers glue is not going to make up for any voids you might have, its to thin. If you have a new nice and flat inlay then you need not be concerned. I should mention that my hoops are MIJ and the inlay groove is rough, bumpy and the inlay would not fit in the groove all the way around.
I have ordered from Jamin-Sam only once and was under the impression he will not sell his high bond tape without purchase of a drum wrap. I had to convince him to sell me a 6” piece to use for a badge installation. Can you buy this kind of tape eslwhere?
Well I hope this helps, let us know what you end up doing and how it works.

on a recommendation from the guys at Precision Drum Co. I just ordered a roll of something called Killer Red Tape
it was pricey but they said they use it on all wrap seams and inlays and have never had a problem in all the years that they have been in business
I'll keep you guys posted and put up some pics when the job is complete
thanks so much for all of your suggestions and for sharing your experiences
@Jeff - looks great ....nice clean work
