length x width x height.

The same way pretty much everything is measured to show overall size.... a layman is going to have no idea that he/she is meant to measure the shell diameter and depth while ignoring the hoops and hardware.

OK, you have confused the confused. I just taped off my floor tom the way you have it, I grabbed the length, then the width but have no clue where to hold the tape for the height.
