Hurricane Sandy Last viewed: 2 hours ago

I didn't see a thread on this so I'll start.

Firstly,I hope all of you that are in the affected areas are ok.

I'm on Staten Island and there are areas that were devistated. My power was out for 10 days.My oldest daughter lost everything. No house to go back to...not even debris.I also lost a long time friend. The death toll continues to rise as they find more bodies.Gas and food are in short supply

Whole communities were wiped off the map.The landscape of the south is no longer recognizeable.

New Jersey was also devistated. The infamous Jersey shore looks like a war zone.A roller coaster sticking up out of the ocean, like a scene from a doomsday movie is a frightening sight.

I know the economy is tough, but if you can spare even ten bucks,go online and please donate to the red cross, ans earmark the donation to Sandy.I used to like that name.

Thanks guys,

Steve B

Steve - So sorry to hear of all the destruction, loss of life and just plain inconvenience of it all. I'm eastern, PA, only an hour or so away from you. If there is -anything- that you need, or that I can do to help, pm me and let me know.

Keeping a good thought for you and yours... condolences on the loss of your friend.

Steve,

So sorry to hear that you and your family are personally affected..

Best wishes, hoping that the planning for the rebuilding of infrastucture and homes is already underway.. and that it commences as soon as is possible..

We all know that it will take a long long time and that things will never be quite the same.

Usually, in the end we come out stronger individuals than what we were..

Good luck with it all

John

Steve sorry to hear this. I hope your daughter can rebuild the house. And losing a close friend like this is never easy. That storm did so much damage. So many lost everything. I'm not that far away, if we can help somehow please let me know.

Sorry for you loss Steve. What a good idea to post this because its very easy for us outside of the storm path to go on with our normal everyday lives and not be thinking about the East coast every minute, we need reminded of what happened. I will for sure donate to the Red Cross. Last year I went to Tuscaloosa Alabama with a truck load of cabinets for habitat. It was six months after the tornado and I was shocked at the devastation still present. We have been talking about building a kitchen again for a family affected by Sandy. If anything I can assemble a small group and come out East to help with whatever we can.

Again, sorry to hear the news.

Jeff C

Thank you!

While I was working in Florida, I had the opportunity to go through hurricane Andrew. It wasn't fun... I know what those things can do, and can only imagine the devastation. It was bad enough in South Florida (I was in Miami) and with the difference in population density... horrendous.

It's my birthday this week and long ago our grown kids and I got tired of trying to guess what to give each other for birthdays, so we send money. I got it from the three of them, matched it, and sent it on.

By the way, after living through a hurricane, I'll take earthquakes any day. You don't know they're coming, and are over in moments. Unlike hurricanes where you get to wait around for 'em and they last for hours.
