Thanks for all the replies guys.Yesterday and today the NYPD/FDNY retirees and scout troop 5,did a clothing/food drive. We also had multiple grills going, and were serving hot food and beverages all day to anybody who was hungry,as well as our first responders. It seemed to boost moral in the area which was something that was sorly needed for all. We're thinking about inviting anybody that can play an instrument to the local VFW hall, and just jamming out.
We've also started helping out people salvage homes that weren't red tagged buy ripping out dry wall and just cleaning up in general. Some houses were salvagable and actually have power. Those we'll start putting up dry wall as soon as we're sure the studs and flooring are dried out.
There are still 5,000 out of power because of electrical problems with some homes on the same line.So Con Ed(who supplies electric in NY) is telling them they have to get a private eletrician to turn on houses one at a time. That's 500 bucks a shot minimum.Talk about adding insult to injury.
Anyway...hopefully with food in their bellys, warm clothes and blackets, and music in the air..we can restore some hope and dignity to those that need it most.
John...I'm with you...I USED to like the name Sandy
