I have found my configuration Last viewed: 0 seconds ago

I know you guys were extremely worried about this so I thought Id better announce that I have chosen the one up, two down configuration. After buying all of these drums and setting each one up a little different I have come to this decision. I think its important (but I could be wrong) to find what works for you and stay with it. I only have two kits I can get the two down with, that being my Rockers and my Fibes. Since the Fibes have been very hard to get tuned Im going with my Maple Rockers to set up in my buddies house for practice. For my home kit I have my blue oyster Luddys in my office and will need another floor tom (good luck right?). And I will always be on the look out for a 14 or 18 Slingerland floor tom for my Slingy kit. The Slingys were wrapped last summer so it will be easy to match, just need a 1964ish floor tom.

I also have come to the conclusion that mounting the rack tom on a snare stand is the way to go. That being said, I might have to take one of my Rocker base drums and fill in the mounting holes to make it virgin. These Rockers were the first drums I did with maple veneer and a natural finish.

You see my Koa snare in the pic, that’s just because it was handy. I will be using my blue and olive badge supra for the kit until I can build a matching snare. Not the best set of drums in the world but good enough for a practice in my buddies basement, and much better that the Apollo’s I have there now.

I will be fitting these with Remo coated Ambassadors, my local mom and pop store is having a big closed door sale today and is selling all drum heads for .50 an inch!

So, how do you guys have you kits set up and why?

P.S.

Special thank you to tnsquint for helping with the tuning of my drums! The tuning Bible is a great aid.

Just had a brain storm. I was out looking at the maple Luwigs with the Koa snare thinking it looked kinda cool. So, how about a wood jelly bean kit? Maple bass drum, oak 13", cherry 16, and a walnut snare??

Cool or not?

Yes waaay cool~! :D I like that idea. I'm glad you found your perfect setup. That's half the battle. Ludwigs look great too. BTW if I see a nice 14" or 18" for your SL kit I'll let you know.

I think a wood jelly bean kit would be cool to a very "select" audience... and you are polling that audience. ;)

That is my normal to go to configuration, either on a snare stand, or center post mount or a conselette mount.

Getting ergonomically comfortable on a drum kit is seriously important. Glad you are feeling good about that set up. One up and two down is tough to beat.

I've been playing 1-up, 1-down lately, but my favorite configuration is 1-up, 2-down. That set-up really increases the range of the kit on the bottom end. Perfect set-up for rock or blues. Enjoy...

Too many great drums to list here!

That makes a lot of sense. I only have one person to jam with and we don’t know what were doing yet but I could see how the kit could change for different songs. I have been playing mainly one up and one down but adding that second floor tom made it a little more fun.

Thank you!
