Amazing isn't it, and the kicker was that he called me over sometime after he bought them to help tune the drums!!!!

I did get help getting a better deal thanks to my brother inlaw who has been a drummer since Christ had short hair!. and Hes an excellent drummer if I do say so myself. His wife passed away four years ago suddlenly and unexpectedtly it was a horrible time, and The man who stood before me was lost and a little 7 year old boy to raise. He started talking about giving up his musical carreer And Suddlenly A light popped on over my head!

I said to him I would like you to do me a favor if you doint mind, after everthing settles down, and my Bro said sure If I can. I said I want you to teach me to play Drums & help me find a set I can afford Lets face it good Kits are not cheap! and I actually seen a sparkle in his eyes that hadnt been there in a few weeks, and he said sure Ill be more than happy to help you learn howe to play and get you set up with a good kit not this garbage that they make for kids. No mind you he has a whole studio set up, drum kits out the wazoo lights, mics, and Intruments that are everwhere. Which is quite impressive. I started going to his gigs with him and one of his bands and learned how to set everything up, even for the gutarists and keyboard player,

I was having a ball just learning something I always wanted to do.

We would always look thru all the lists of drums for sale from craigs list to GC and Musicans Friend which happen to be the same company who knew. So three years ago I got a phone call and my wife answered and I heard her say WHAT? did you do, Hes going to be beside himself. I yelled out who are ya yacking at, My Eife replied gerry I said ok. and went back to what I was doing, and she walked over to me smiling and handed me the Phone ab=n she said uits for you and you better sit down, I said great more bad news! she just smikled and walked away and got the keys to the car. my brother in law toasked me if I could come out to huis house righ taway he need soome help I said sure thing Ill be right there it was a 35 mile drive one way!

So I finally got to his house he offered e a beer, and said follow me, And we startted heading out to his studio, and when he opened the door His band members were there also, And I wondered did I goof on an instruement or sound board or worse yet break an expensive equipment.

I noticed over by the drum setups there was one kit that was completely covered. He asjed the Keyboard player to put the stage lights on the covered Kit. I wasnt paying much attention to what they were doing, finally my brother inlaw called me over and said happy birthday!!!!!! I said thank you,

and I started to walk away, and he said hey man your nort done yet! unwrap that coverd instruments by the drums set ups, I said ok, And When I did there was a huge bow around it saynig happy birthday my brother and thank you foir all your help, and your first lession starts in 3o minutes after you unwrap this . Which was a 5 peice Lugwig rockers set in the nicest sparkling blue I have ever seen. with all the cymbals bells and whisles.

I was amazed at the set but at the same time, I kinda felt bad he purchased this kit for me, he said dont woryy about it, and take alook at waht else I bought! which was 1 set of Pearls and 3sets of Ludwigs( not including mine) Its funny because everytime he pops in, Im in my garage practing and he asked my wife how often is he on his drums, and her reply was it would be easier to ask when is he not on his drums!

In short for those getting into drumming, listen to those mentors who have been beating the skins for a bit and dont be afraid to ask for help if your stuck, mosy musicans will be ore than happy to lend a hand and get you on track. and read and learn as much as you can As for me My timing has improved greatly, I have been playing with various rock and blues shuffles and trying to blend them, I try and pratice 2-3 hours a day and itf it wasnt for my brother inlaws help My dream would have went by the way side Thx Ger!!....Rob

Here's how I get good deals and help someone get a better deal at the same time! I happen to drive by a Guitar Center about twice a day every day and sometimes more on the weekend, I stop in about 2-3x per week as well. It's just on my route to the city. I always scout the parking lot and if I see someone going in with drums I stop to see what they're trading in. If Im interested I tell them after they get a disappointing price from GC call me and I'll beat the price.

I've picked up quite a few nice deals this way and the potential seller gets more money for his/her stuff too! Win - Win, the only one who doesn't win is my wife who has to put up with more drums in the the house.
