Ideas on 20" floor tom convert to Bass Last viewed: 5 hours ago

Has anyone converted an 18 or 20" floor tom to a bass? I recently been thinking about trying it on my 20.......would like feedback if anyone has done this, I want to do it without modifying or drilling in the 20". by putting a pedal on the drum would that Stabilize the drum enough? I have stands I can mount my toms on, perhaps putting some sort of support on either side of the drum would also help keep it solid. any ideas please come forth. I'm going to give this serious consideration.....one more question, what kind of heads would you suggest I use, I assuem tom heads won't cut it.

They make a conversion kit that you can buy, that uses your existing floor tom brackets. You slip these angled legs into the brackets and they work just like bass drum legs. Usually, you would use a riser for the pedal, 18" I think you still would, a 20" you wouldn't need it.

The conversion kit I had (and maybe still do) was a Pearl. There was a lift that used either the Pearl ISS mount or better Pearl mount (blanking at the moment). It slipped a 2" post into the mount, and stuck a metal piece out to the end to clip your pedal on.

By the way...what are you doing with a 20" floor tom?!?!?!

LOL.........well I'm not doing anything with it, it just sits around....

is this the conversion kit you speak of? the issue is, notice the mounts, not the typical slong type mounts, so this would not work unless your hardware matches this set up, what else do you know of?

I'm kind of thinking just put some sand bags on either said of the drum, use alternate stands for toms and should be good to go right? on a 20 you dont need to prop up the drum, should be fine with the pedal

I just finished a 16 x 18 80's Gretsch floor tom conversion and bought some used maple hoops and some Ddrum claws with rubber gaskets 3" straight tension rods and a DW clamp on bass spurs from sweetwater 34.99. Gibraltar riser for foot pedal. Evans Emad on batter & fiberskyn on reso with 5" hole. The best bass drum i own (little Cannon) LOL

This Danmar cradle for floor toms looks pretty good. A little pricey. If you had a wood worker friend it seems you could make something like this. JC Cabinets, I bet you could make these and sell quite a few on here.

Ircollura, that looks great. Can we get a pic of your spurs, or how you are stabilizing the drum for the pedal and front. Are you using a riser?

DW SPURS CLAMP ON 34.99 AND Gibraltar riser 24.99 it was the least expensive and really looks great with no modifications so you could always return it to its original state. I will try to get more pics when i can
