I did a little more reading tonight, here's what I found;
There is a later cloud shaped badge in this timeline;
http://www.vintagedrumguide.com/drcjw/article_1_badges.html
That isn't in this, more popular, timeline;

I think that is your badge. The time frame accounts for the lugs, (end of the run for the old style beaver tail lugs), the hoops, (beginning of the run for the double flanged hoops), the badge, the 20" bass drum listed ('49 catalogue, closest year I could find, link doesn't work so here is the same page from '51), here; http://www.vintagedrumguide.com/images/slingerland_drum_sets/1951-slingerland-drumsets3.jpg
Same page lists an 8 x 12 single headed tom, so we know that size tom shell was available. Didn't see a 14 x 14 listed anywhere but who knows.
I'm gonna call it a '46-'48.
Many thanks to both Mark Cooper and C.J. Wenk. You guys have compiled a mind numbing amount of research on Slingys and made it freely available to everyone. Top shelf, gentlemen.
