Investing in a new kick pedal... Last viewed: 15 minutes ago

I'm thinking it's time, especially since I have a new kit, to get a nice new kick pedal to go with it. I'm willing to put the money into a DW 9000, which I've played around with a few times at my local music shop. They feel fantastic to me but I was wondering if you guys had any suggestions or have any experience with these pedals. Is it worth the 300 some-odd $$$?

I hear they pretty much play themselves.

Thanks guys!

I use one of these.

They are $314.00 US.

Not cheap but they are built way better than any of the DW pedals and smoother too. It has really helped me avoid hip pain from having to bend my foot/leg to line up with the pedal.

That vector pedal does look nifty. Does it offer much more than just the horizontal adjustment?

I have an older DW 5000 AD something-or-other double pedal, that I use as a single (I know, dumb. For now, I've given up on double pedals). I love the action. However, I'm no longer a gigging drummer, don't do 4 hour gigs anymore, so I couldn't give you a "working" assessment of it. That vector ergo thingie looks cool.

Price isn't really an issue I should mention, and single kick. I play anything from punk to rock and reggae.

It has your standard Camco pedal types of adjustments. You can adjust the beater angle by loosening the screw that holds the spring roller bracket. It has no notches or holes so it can be adjusted to any position.

The hoop clamp slides all the way to the left and to the right so you can change the location of the frame in relation to the center of the drum.

The heel rotates and slides to the left or right. You use with in conjunction with sliding the beater clamp and the beater cam to get everything lined up the way you want it.

I have a DW 3000. Nice pedal for the $$$, though I can see it exploding eventually. I can't imagine that the 9000 isn't a drastic improvement over the lowly 3000.

I tried the short board Axis pedals, and I sent them back. The long footboard Axis are probably better, but that's a LOT of cabbage. But so is the DW 9000.

See if you can spend a bit of time with it, and I think you will see whether or not you to want to plunk down the $$$.

I use a Sonor Giant Step, great pedal but expensive. The DW stuff feels heavy to me, but some players like that...I don't. I think the Sonor single pedal goes for around $400. It's hard to say that any BD pedal is worth that kind of money, but it's the best I've used. It comes with both chain & strap and also has a very cool "Docking-Station" that keeps you from screwing up the BD Hoops. The only problem is trying one out, it's hard to find a store that keeps them in stock.

Just my 2 cents
