Is it considered Vintage yet? Last viewed: 18 minutes ago

OK, so it's only 20 years old, but I have, among other sets, a 1993 Ludwig Super Classic kit with long lugs (imperials). I don't believe it is old enough yet to be considered vintage. I'm sure it is collectible due to the fact it is the older shell composition still (maple/poplar/maple), but generally what is the guideline that defines "vintage"?Ken

Could we see a pic of the long Imperial lugs please?

Thanks SA

Definition

Vintage is a word that can have several meanings. Its primary definition is "of old, recognized and enduring interest, importance or quality." It can be used as a noun or as an adjective, and is usually associated with the quality of aging, enduring or improving over time

Just like the music from the 80's is now considered classic, I think my drop G badge Gretsch kit is now vintage. It dates to somewhere from 79-81.

80's???

Music from the 90's is considered classic, I know it's crazy. My students keep me informed of these things. When my band thought they were updating our song list with some "newer" tunes, meaning 90's, we were told all we play is "OLDIES"

1958 Gretsch Kit
1966 Kent Kit
1969 Ludwig Standard Kit
1970 Rogers Power Tone Kit
1970's Ludwig Vistalite Kit
1994 Yamaha Maple Custom
2010 Yamaha Maple Custom
28 assorted snares (including some real crap)

to be vintage must be 25 years or older and no longer being made.

Jut trying to understand, I'm not arguing. BUT, aren't Gretsch still building Drums in the same way since the 70's. Ludwig still make 400's and Black Beauties. Yamaha are still making RC 9000's.

I agree that 25 years or more is necessary before anything is even considered to be vintage. So, is a 1988 Corvette 'vintage'? I think many would feel that it is. But a 1993? I don't think so, not quite yet.

Also, the item in question should have some historical significance or value: a Pymouth Reliant K-car will never be 'vintage', in my opinion.

As some posters have noted, 20 years is a very short time in this context, and 25 years is not much more.

A 1965 Rogers kit was 25 years old in 1990, and the vintage craze for them had not really taken off yet. But by 10 years later, 2000, the movement was in full swing.

Super Classics from that time period are 4ply shells. Those are becoming quite desirable. If they are standard sized toms then you really have a collectible kit there!

You've got that right Dan...

Around 16 years ago...I use to think that Bobby Chiasson was crazy for buying up all the Rogers stuff,as I couldn't seem to give a set away....
