First post, and I looked around a bit but couldn't find any info on this topic. I recently acquired a 66 Ludwig kit by way of my dear lifelong friends passing. I don't know much but I've dated the keystone badges by serial number and what he had always said is true. They fall in that 1966 range. There wrapped in a blue oyster and it looks older but I wanted to know if there was any way to know for sure if this wrap is original to the kit. I also recently purchased a Ludwig marching snare from the same era that I intended to wrap to match the drums but that particular pattern seem to be very elusive. Thanks for the look and BTW this site is awesome!!!
Is there a way to tell if wrap is original on 66 Ludwigs Last viewed: 0 seconds ago

Good quality photos for us to see would be a start.

Welcome to the forum!
Best way to tell is to look at the grommet. If it doesn't look like it has been replaced then chances are the wrap is original. If you could get a photo of the badge & grommet on the outside as well as the interior that would be great. Some wrap colors/ patterns have changed over the years and It's hard to track down an exact match. That has actually been a topic of discussion lately from a few wrap makers who want to know what we vintage guys want / look for.
Congrats on your purchase though. Either way you have yourself a great kit that will give you nothing but enjoyment.

Thanks!,Didn't even think of that. Ill try to get some pics up, but in the mean time.. the kick drum is 24'' first tom 15'' and floor is 18'' ( I know there monsters} that being said, is it true that the wrap should land in a particular place, also the large floor tom wrap wasn't large enough to make it all the way around in one piece so its there is a 6 or 7 inch center piece.

The wrap seams are usually in the back of the drum or on a side not readily seen by the audience.
Any drum larger than a 16-in diameter requires two pieces of wrap. The bass drum should be wrapped the same way. The wrap sheets are sized at 24"x54" from the manufacturer.
I bet those sound great in those sizes.
Thanks for the info, and your right, They sound like thunder. I LOVE the bottom end they display.
'66 shells would have the wrap going into the shell at the scarf joint. They started putting wrap completely on top of the shell later in '68. Just take a head off and check the edge for this.

Mike`s right, The Ludwig hump will be wrap in the scarf joint. you`ll see it clearly at the edges.

mike took the words right out of my mouth.
thats the easiest way to tell if rewrap or not.
Robyn
Those sizes would be pretty unusual for a set from '66.
