I think you are right, I didn't catch that at first. Looks like the pearl style mount was on the drum. Did the modular mounts have a tri screw set up?
Is there a way to tell if wrap is original on 66 Ludwigs Last viewed: 41 seconds ago
Not a Guru, just addicted to drums

I don't think it's avocado, pretty sure it's just glue. And yes on the filled holes. Looks to me like they filled the Tom mount and now it is using a rims mount. Guess that should of been a give away too
Hopefully this is the badge pic off the slingerlands
I know its off topic but I was hoping you could shed some light on the build date of these guys too.
That Slingy badge is early to very late 60`s until you find a date stamp.

So I've finally started the refurbished of the big kids. Really more of a re head and deep cleaning/ polishing more than anything. I've got a few questions for y'all. The wrap has peeled back slightly on the edge of the seams, I see this is fairly common, what's the best fix for this? Heat and a good glue would be my best guess. Another question. My kick drum is equipped with the curved type spurs that retract into the drum when nor in use. I have mounts for these spurs on the front and rear of the drum but only 2 spurs. Should I use 4 or was it just an option to move the spurs for player preference? Thanks for any help!

There would have been two sets of spurs on a drum with four brackets. Sounds like you had one pair go missing.
Oyster blue from the 60's is very easy to spot as an original finish. Nobody has really been able to copy it right except for the possibly Bum Wrap Drum Co and this is only within the last few years.
The real stuff almost looks 3D. Just do a quick google search on blue oyster 60's Ludwigs and you will see what I mean.
Those 80's-90's Ludwigs still sound pretty good though.
Wflkurt, sorry, I realized a while back that the wrap is not original. And they are not from the 60s. I just re commeneted on this thread from a while back. I do thank you for the info though. I was accidentally misinformed ( I hope) but he previous owner, He stated that they were all original but tom mount holes filled easily prove that to be incorrect. I do have an opinion question for everyone though. My original bass drum hoops are missing the inlay and some one at some point filled the grove and painted the hoops. I've stripped the paint and removed the filler but since oyster blue is a unicorn drum wrap I was thinking of just doing the hoops in a natural wood finish? Thoughts??
