JMCD "Dynatone" with 5/5 Rogers build! Last viewed: 1 hour ago

Guys!

Thought I might throw this in the Vintage Drums category, as "technically"... it is vintage ... sort of... Anyway,

Have a look at the Joe Montineri Custom Drums "Dynatone", which is like a Rogers Dynasonic in that Joe is using his SPECIAL 5/5 shells with actual 60's era ply thickness! This shell is unique to JMCD, and is not available anywhere else. I just did a playing review on the one shown here:

The build/shell are PRISTINE! This one was wrapped in Antique WMP and is a near perfect match to 60's era Rogers WMP in chip size and pattern. The hardware on this drum came off a customer's 5 line COB Dynasonic, and he KEPT the shell of course, so the hardware can be returned to the DONOR drum at any time! Joe is NOT attempting to make fakes/clones, and does not advertise them as such. These are however, a NEW wood shell Dynasonic type snare drum made to 60's era Rogers specs, but with today's precision. I want to mention that the drum plays and sounds incredible! Also...

I had intended to SHOW this drum and two wrapped sample shells at the Chicago Drum Show, but... after my display was assembled, there was no room. So... the 1st pic is what would have been seen at the show in my Buddy Rich snare drum display. Hopefully you will enjoy the pics! Joe's email is at the bottom of the placard that I wrote if you want to chat with him about this line of drums.

Glad you guys like! JM does fabulous work... perfection actually. I wanted to make mention of a couple things:

I get NOTHING for posting these here, other than how impressed I am with them! The neat thing is, one of these would cost you 2/3rds LESS than if you bought an actual Dynasonic on eBay or somewhere else, and these are MODERN builds of a highly regarded CLASSIC snare drum. I have owned FIVE 60's era 5X14 wood Dynasonics over the years, and only ONE has been "THE ONE", which is the drum I play 99.9% of the time. The other four, while all beautiful drums!, didn't sound as nice as this one, and that's my point here. EVERY ONE of Joe's I've ever played has sounded GREAT. EVERY ONE! That's the testimony to the quality of his shells and precise bearing edges, etc. One I played had real lousy wires, but the actual drum sounded incredible!, again... nice shells and edges. Anyway...

I took pics of two of these for JM, and I'll put them up here "side by each" as the Canadian French say. You can see that they are indeed, slightly different wraps, but the shells are identical. JMCD is offering these through 2015, and then I believe he won't be able to get these shells made again in the 60's era 5/5 build and veneer thickness. Here are two that I played and photographed!

Goodness and perfection in a modern era,who would have ever thought...Thanks for giving us the heads up on Joe`s fantastic new line and with limited availability they should fly off the shelf. These sound like they would be THE closest to the original that have ever been produced and to spec at that! But for now i`m going to keep my 7-liner cob Dyna in it`s original form, inspite of being tempted with the donor hardware as i only have one, lol.Great stuff here Tommyp and thanks again for letting us know of this wonderful Montineri line.

Very very interesting with these shells, and they do look fantastic. May I ask about the cost of these shells in USD?

Best,

Hello Magnus!

BEST thing to do is to contact Joe directly. I'll attach the placard with his email for you! I will say that he has a MENU of options, as these can be built to what the customer is looking for. TRULY a CUSTOM BUILT snare drum based entirely on a most sought after classic!
