From Wayne Brown

Goodness and perfection in a modern era,who would have ever thought...Thanks for giving us the heads up on Joe`s fantastic new line and with limited availability they should fly off the shelf. These sound like they would be THE closest to the original that have ever been produced and to spec at that! But for now i`m going to keep my 7-liner cob Dyna in it`s original form, inspite of being tempted with the donor hardware as i only have one, lol.Great stuff here Tommyp and thanks again for letting us know of this wonderful Montineri line.Best, Wayne

Rims/Wayne!

Yes indeed! Having played and continuing to play a Rogers wood/WMP Dynasonic as my main snare drum, I had great interest in these, simply because JM would do this CORRECTLY!, and thus he did! I have played/tested THREE of these in the "gig zone", and every drum was unbelievably CONSISTENT in their sound and the way they played. That's the one thing that really impressed me too. Having owned/played 5 wood Rogers Dynasonics over the years, I can honestly say that not all of them sounded good. Out of the 5, there was ONE that knocked me out, and I have been playing that one to this day. Probably close to 12 years now! JM's Dynatone's sound like THAT one! Anyway, certainly worth chatting with him about them if you are interested! I may be able to get up a "soundfile" on the one I showed here...

One I played had real lousy wires, but the actual drum sounded incredible!Tommyp

Yah, thanks Tommy for reminding me of that! I'm still looking for replacement wires, and Puresound is no longer making the SD1416 so I'm stuck for the time being with an amazing Montineri wood shell drum with really lousy wires (Arrrgghhh!). But seriously, a big thank you to you for personally test-gigging it and verifying that it's acoustically identical to your 67 WMP wood Dyna.

We've talked extensively about this JMCD Dynatone in another thread so I can't add to all the great things we've already said about this drum, but I will point out that Joe's unique 5/5 shell (identical to Rogers' original Powertone and Dyna shell) was my only viable option to making my damaged COB Dyna playable again (I didn't even want my original dented COB shell with extra holes back, so I let Joe keep it). So instead of living with the irritation of a banged up, mutilated COB Dyna (which I got for a pittance) , I now have this:

To anyone considering talking to Joe about acquiring one of these very limited shells, be aware that the wait time for delivery may be extensive. It's not like ordering a drum from DW or Gretsch. Montineri drums are Bugatti's, not Mercedes; that is, they're not rolling off an assembly line. They're made one at a time to his ridiculously picky standards, and if your order is number 16 in line, then you will simply have to wait patiently for Joe to take care of 15 other customers first. But it's worth the wait.

Also, full payment will be expected upon placing your order. Cost?... talk to Joe, but it's a lot less expensive than buying an original wood Dyna if you can even find one for sale in your desired finish. This shell is worth every penny I paid, but if your only concern is cost, why are you looking at Bugatti's?; head to the Mercedes dealership.

Feel free to PM me if anyone would like more details about the JMCD "Dynatone". There's at least three forum members here who currently own this unique drum.

Hello Magnus!BEST thing to do is to contact Joe directly. I'll attach the placard with his email for you! I will say that he has a MENU of options, as these can be built to what the customer is looking for. TRULY a CUSTOM BUILT snare drum based entirely on a most sought after classic!Tommyp

Hi Tommyp,

Many thanks for the e-mail address. I will have to think this through, though. I am very impressed by what you say about these shells. We will see what happens.

All the best,

Magnus
