You have a great kit there, including the snare, WOW !

I shouldn't worry about the fading, nothing wrong considering its age, enjoy them the way they are.

Above all, you will love the way those Clubbies sound.

Ya the blue is gone, gone like my last paycheck, gone like the car I wrecked(John Hyatt)

Once you put them back together and the "new" un faded parts are once again covered with lugs and such you will soon forget about how fade they are, its no big deal. The Novus will shine em up nice and you will be happy. Look at the progress so far my gosh!

Here is a pic of my first big drum score in 2011. This is waht got me addicted to this art.

Fantastic job on restoration! Always get personal satisfaction when you do it yourself!

Looked at the pictures closely...and this is just my :2Cents:

Clubdate kit: 14x20 (8 lug), 8x12, 14x14 with a pioneer 5x14....now what I believe you have....."Combo" kit as the bass is 14x22 (ten lug) as well as the 9x13, and matching Jazzfest. Perhaps your Uncle special ordered this kit, and added the 14x14? Is this a pre-serial kit?

Looking forward to your finished product!

Awesome, thanks for the replies everyone. You are correct in that they are Sky Blue Pearl. I've corrected the original post. The floor tom and snare are 14", the other tom is 13", and the bass drum is 22". My mom ran the badges before she gave them to me, and said the snare is 1960-1963, and the rest are 1964. I do play guitar, and no, unfortunately the strat is definitely not anything worth a crap. I won it in a contest, it's a Korean Squier. I should be able to post some more pics this weekend of cleaning progress. The Novus I ordered off of Amazon so it won't be here until next week. Do you guys really think it will be able to get them back to their original color? This is after my first scrubbing with a sponge and dish soap, and you can see how different the kit's color is now vs. the original that was underneath the hardware...

Novus 2 does the magic....not 1 AFAIK.....

A few questions for you all regarding the bass drum...

1. Any recommendations on repainting the hoop? I've seen spray paint mentioned, notably Krylon Satin Black a few times. Do I just sand off the original paint and re-do it from scratch?

2. Any recommendations for re-doing the interior paint of the bass drum? Is the same spray paint ok? I shouldn't sand it right, just put a new coat on?

3. Any recommendations on re-doing the hoop's inlay? Obviously it's going to be basically impossible to get the original Sky Blue Pearl inlay...what about maybe a silver or sky blue glitter spray paint? (as mentioned in this thread: http://www.vintagedrumforum.com/showthread.php?t=28694&highlight=glitter+spray)

Jeff those look amazing! Hope I can get mine shined up that nice.

I don't have any of the parts for a head on the front of the bass drum. Once I get it back up and playable I guess I'll get on the hunt for them.

When I re-painted my wooden Ludwig bass rim a while back I used the Black Satin spray paint. I took masking tape and and covered the red sparkle inlay strip so i didnt get paint on it. Mine came out nice! I didnt bother sanding all of the old paint off and no problems as of yet. I did this about 2 years ago.

I should clarify: I did hit it with fine sand paper just to smooth it out some, I just did bother going all the way back to wood

Your so lucky to have the floor tom, Ive been looking and looking and looking and dont think I will ever find one. I think I have 4 rods and claws for your bass drum, not sure about that but if I do Il let you know.

As for painting the hoops. As a cabinet maker and finisher I tend to lean towards taking the paint off. all of it. Then primer and top coat. Spray can is fine for that. I am doing mine today with rust-olium (spelling?) and I am going to just sand the hoops lightly and then paint over the old paint and some bare spots. If you have an inlay, I recomend masking it off. I tried to remove one once and never did get it glued down very good. This was like the first time I tried it so it was a learning curve if you will. Your heading in the right direction! Keep going and keep us up to date were a nosey bunch of guys.

Thanks for the nice remark on my kit btw.
