Just how rare and unusual is this Rogers kit? Last viewed: 1 hour ago

If the serial #'s are close including the dyna I think that would increase the value, collectors like that and I don't see a lot of kits with a matching wood dyna where the serial is close enough that the kit all came together.

The set-up isn't all that rare, but the wood shell Dynasonics were built in far smaller numbers than the chrome-over-brass metal shell drums. So the prices are higher for that particular drum. The condition of the wrap is very important. That wrap tends to split and once that has begun to happen, folks are a good deal less interested. Above noted pricing is probably in the ball park for the current market. Some Dynasonics are selling around $1500 right now. Should be a bit higher for black onyx.

I always hate to use the word rare unless we are talking about a one off or seldon seen piece. This kit doesn't check either of those boxes. However, I would say that your kit has a couple of things going for it. The black onyx is certainly desirable, unless cracked. The kit appears to be Cleveland era, and if that is the case, the 22" bass drum is not that common and a joy to play. Add in the matching dyna sonic and you have another big plus. Condition is king. Bottom line you have a very desirable kit if all original, no cracks in the pearl and no extra holes.

Rare and unusual because I just don't see these sizes, with this wrap, in this configuration around anymore. Most of these kits that have survived came in the 20,12,16 with the powertone snare config. I prefer the black to the 2 other onyx wraps that were offered and if the wrap on this kit has managed to evade the cracking issues, I do think you have a rare bird on your hands especially, as Eamesuser stated, if the serial numbers are close.

I saw two black onyx Dynas on ebay at the same time a wee while back. Same seller, too. Did Rogers sell them individually or is it more likely they were originally part of a set?

Okay... this is NOT FB, and it doesn't matter what was written there on this subject as we are interested with what is written HERE! With that said, we shall continue to help this VDF member up until the subject or he, goes sour. Should THAT happen, I will step in at that point and take care of it. THANK YOU guys... you're the best!

... got it, Tommy.

Will someone at least give the Cliff's Notes or does it seriously not even matter in reference to the kit in question?

Hobbs!

It seriously does not matter .. here .. what was written on FB. That is the whole point! Drum Collector hasn't said/written anything HERE to merit his possibly not getting info from our fine and well versed membership on his query. The FB posts while certainly entertaining! .. ( I have a FB page, as one almost HAS TO today to get the word out about gigs, concerts, etc. ) .. really have no bearing here as this is a completely different place/tone than FB. That's really all it was. Just trying to give DC the opportunity to "ask a question, get an answer" . THANKS!!!

So sorry to raise the blood pressure so high. Having wasted time on the thread, and then the reference elsewhere @ it (the kit) being darkly intriguing, well, gee wiz, I was sort of interested if there was something salient about the Rogers in question, as a lot of us are interested in vintage Rogers in general, without having to join site X to read it. Sounds like it's BS so, you're right, who cares. But thanks for making me feel like a ten year old getting yelled at for questioning what's on the plate,

Not intended at all my friend! Just splainin' as you did ask! Also, the Rogers FB Group is a private group, meaning you have to be a "member" to see the posts. In addition, that thread/post has been REMOVED, as I thought it might be. It had NO INFORMATION, just back and forth bickering and crap... and again, while entertaining!... well, you know. We get enough of that HERE from time to time! Hope this explains it! BEST!!!
