Kent drum set with Zildjian cymbals advice needed Last viewed: 1 hour ago

Loading...

Greetings All...

I am a new member and have no knowledge of drums; just a dad trying to keep my 14yo daughter entertained as she embarks on her "musical career"

My daughter plays the bass guitar, but wants other instruments around the house so she can have band practices. So.... We went out and found a drum set at a garage sale that appeared to be in fair condition and the cymbals looked like they were in great condition. I have googled the set and cymbals, but can't make heads or tails of what we have, it's true condition, if we should sell it, restore it or let her bang away as is. I have included some photos of the set and cymbals, any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Ralph

Welcome!

The kit and cymbals look very fine indeed and perfectly suited to your [daughter's] purpose. I believe Kent is somewhere between the MIJ Japanese imports and the Big Four American manufacturers, quality/price-wise.

I would clean and tune them but not much more - the heads even look usable and are probably nice and thin for that old-school sound. The cymbals look to be Zildjian but that's just a guess.

In short, great score and you can now look forward to enjoying hours of loud jamming in your house. I'm pretty sure that, back in the day, my own parents just couldn't get enough of it. :)

[edit] I see that a couple of the bass drum tension rods are bent at the ends. I'd consider leaving them as is as long as you can still tune the drum - if you do try to fix them be careful as they could break off from too much bending.

the old Kent's are actually American made , very nice score , welcome.

Super 400 small round knob
1967 super classic obp

once the brass ceases to glitter, and the drum looses its luster, and the stage remains dark, all you have left is the timbre of family.

Depending on what you bought them for, the Cymbals which are Avedis Zildjians could fetch quite a price and possibly pay you back for the lot. My advice is don't bash those cymbals. Maybe put them aside till your sis gets together with her drumming a bit. Maybe get some Sabian B20's or Zidjian ZBT's. They are sold in packs specifically for the beginner. They're cheap, thick and a bit clunky, but she can wail away on them till she gets her wrist strokes down with more finesse and forgiveness to a cymbal. Then return to the what we call A's and they'll sound lovely and give years of service.

The kit looks great by the way.l Good score there.

Thanks for the advice Geckobeats...

We paid $15.00 for everything (kit, cymbals & hardware), I am beginning to think we did OK on our purchase. What would you think some of the items are worth?

Thanks Robyn. Dumb-luck on our part and innocent ignorance on the sellers part. Whatever we decide to do (sell or keep), we'll do the right thing and act fairly with the original owners.

This forum rocks.....
