That really is a nice looking drum.

Spare parts won't be too hard to find, but shoot, they won't be needed for a brand new drum for quite some time, one would hope?

I'm a NuckelHead & my drums are NuckelHeads...Nick can spell it anyway he likes. He's a great guy to deal with & I built him a great drum...very proud of this one!

For the record, it is NuckelHead...it fits me (go figure) and is an answer to a question I was asked several years ago. I was selling one of my first drums online & a guy asked me what kind of nucklehead spends months finishing a shell instead of just wrapping it...my answer was "ME". LOL!

Ok,..I have to ask, When people here say they do the bearring edges by hand,..Are you take`n a hand held router (700+rpm) and going around the curcumference, or are you useing a rasp and file with sandpaper ??

I`m not being a jerk or anything but I been working wood for 35 years and I`m not bad at surface finnishing either so, What part of the finnish work takes anything the even remotely resembles a month, let alone months ??

Sometimes I'll buy a shell with the basic edges cut, sometimes I cut them myself on my router table. Depends on what shell the customer wants, some guys have found & bought shells that already have the edges cut. I hand shape them depending on the thickness & density of the wood species. This drum due to the density (2200+/- Janka Scale) has a very fat round over to the exterior of the shell...the interior was just left at a basic 45. The finishes take the time I described because I use multiple coats of Tung Oil. Bunnyman's drum has over 40 thin coats of Tung & 4 coats of hard wax. The thin coats of Tung take several days each to dry & several months to cure. The products I use come from TreeHouse Labs in Washington State & are natural & eco friendly...very good stuff & available online. I don't use poly's or lacquers unless requested by a client. Vince's drum didn't take as long because Bocote will not except a great deal of finishing oils. It is so naturally resinous that the wood actually expels the oil finish...very slow process and again, curing time. I was actually building this for myself but Nick saw it online & wanted me to build it out for him. He picked the hardware and you guys are seeing the final results.

Are there faster ways to do all this?...yep!, this is just my thing. I love the look of old antique furniture & pattern a lot of builds after that look. I'm just doing Old School-New School!
