My dream came true sometime ago when i kind of accidently found this bass drum from Sweden . . i live in Finland and have to thank two good friends and a few other people to finally have it here with me at home : D .

Now i need help with the inside markings, if someone can date the drum:

Do these say anything? To me they look like 1075 and number 5.

It's not in a mint condition but good enough for me. Misses 2 lug screws and 3 outside washers ...

http://i1033.photobucket.com/albums/a414/lindon4/IMG_6345.jpg

so if someone has these washers hanging around with no use, i am interested.

The badge:

Shell

The seller was an old man who said he bought it maybe over 50 years ago, and it wasnt new when he bought it.

Was these Reliance Model bass drums ever white? It is over painted but i cant see if there is an original brownish finish under the white paint.

Anyway, all info is welcome : )

Nice bass drum! I have a 28" Leedy from from 1914 that I really like a lot. It isn't marked all that well either. I lucked out when the original owner signed and dated it. Mine is one ply solid mahogany. Is yours? Can't tell from the pic. I doubt that paint is original since it goes right over the badge. I'd strip it and either varnish it or use some wipe-on poly finish. That's a great companion for your old snare drum!

So the 1075 could be written by the owner ... I dont know. It looks like written with chalk so its kind of funny that it hasnt vanish by now. The 1075 cant be month and year anyway, cause it would be funny that it was made in 1975, lol.

I read the Leedy Reliance Model bass drums were 2 ply

http://www.vintagedrumguide.com/images/badges/leedy/leedy_badges_1931.jpg

Its kind of light weight if that tells anything. I cant tell if it is ... i have to open it again and take a closer look.

What kind of badge your 1914 Leedy has? Wasnt it that the Leedy Standard models had solid wood shells?

That's a great companion for your old snare drum!

Thanks. I havent find any markings from it, ... AK-DRums guy said it can be John Grey & Sons, ... "the long headed / slotted t-rods remind me of that ". Its also non standard 14" size but a tiny bit smaller so i had to make the new heads from real skin myself. I also made a hoop for it cause it only had one broken head.

Calf skins are cool cause its true vintage but they are pain in the ass to keep in tune cause they are kind of still alive, haha :D

Yes, thats what i thought too, and this made me even more luckier to find it. :D When i saw it in the pic on internet, i noticed the tension rods looked like Leedy, but because the ad didnt say anything else except "old bass drum" i was like "nah, it cant be Leedy". When my friend picked it up and i asked her to take a photo of the badge she said "its not a badge, its just a hole in the drum" i was like oh no ... but i asked her to take a closer look so she did and sent me a photo, and when i put a Leedy Reliance badge photo found from internet on top of that photo, i came up with this: (pay attention to the part where it says "IND USA")

[ame]http://youtu.be/PnvGHO-pf3o[/ame]

and was like YAY, its Leedy after all!!!!!

How does it sound ?

Well cause it has natural heads and its really dry air here they are really thight so it is weirdly high pitched "thummmmmmmm".

Nice animation !

I had a similar experience with a Leedy snare I found a couple of years ago. Those snares are so rare over here, I couldn’t believe my eyes (and ears).

It would it be a nice match to your bass drum no ...?

Wow, thats a cool snare ... what does the other lever do? And yes, the feeling when you first notice that this is the real thing ... thats just something :D When i first noticed my bass drum could be Leedy, i didnt even tell my wife about it, lol. When i was 100% sure, i showed her that animation and she was like "wow" cause she knew about my Leedy stuff.

Anyway, i now got most of the paint off of the badge :D

Kinda looks like a 3 ply to my eyes. My guess is that the writing inside is from the factory and must mean something but what that is I have no idea. My 1914 drum was unmarked except for the owner's name. The badge was removed and some light bulb thing was in its place. I took that off so I just have a larger than normal vent hole. Here's what it looks like after a little restoration. It's a very deep thunderous beast!

The lightbulb thing was a head warmer.

I knew it was for keeping heat on the calf heads but what puzzled me was that with it set up that was there wasn't any vent hole.
