Nice!I would love to hear that baby ring out one time.

I try to record something tomorrow, but the heads are really tight and they dont get much lower even if i knobs all the way open. I was now thinking after reading this

The lightbulb thing was a head warmer.

... should i warm the heads to make it lower? I was thinking about putting some moist on it cause thats how to put them on the hoops in the first place.

Kinda looks like a 3 ply to my eyes. My guess is that the writing inside is from the factory and must mean something but what that is I have no idea. My 1914 drum was unmarked except for the owner's name. The badge was removed and some light bulb thing was in its place. I took that off so I just have a larger than normal vent hole. Here's what it looks like after a little restoration. It's a very deep thunderous beast!Steve

Your drum looks really good!

How did you date it to 1914 if there wasnt any markings or badge? The lugs are something i have never seen before!

Oh yes and looks 3 ply now to me too. 2 thinner and one thicker in the middle.

As I always say on the old painted drums.....

BE VERY CAREFUL!..THAT IS LEAD PAINT YOU ARE DEALING WITH!

Don't just start scraping away on it.....

That's a very good point about the lead paint potential! On mine the owner signed and dated it which is the only way I would ever be able to tell how old it is.

Wow, i didnt even know about that ... i remember back in the times when i was in school and everybody talked about the lead poisoning you will get if you suck the pencils ... i always thought thats a legend.

Anyway, i now shot some video.

Sorry about the low quality audio in the beginning, ... thats the camera's audio. The beginning is just to show that the tuners are all the way out and loose.

I should get a softer beater... !

Oh ... that made me think: what if my number 1075 is the date that the guy painted the drum?

Also, my wife, a school teacher, said that the number 7 is not necessarily 7, but it could be something else, cause at least here in Finland, they wrote number 7 like this

and now when i think about it, even i was teached to write it like that but and nowadays number 7 looks like this

Not sure how this thing is or was back in USA tho ....

Lead paint was banned here (U.S.) in 1977...so not all that long ago...

If you break a piece off...it has kind of a "sweet" smell to it.....hard to describe..but I know that smell from living in old houses...and pieces of paint coming off things....
