I have a 6.5x14 bronze Monroe badge supra that is my main live drum but in the studio,I use a mix of snares depending on the music. Every company has its own sound and I enjoy all of them. I agree mith Mike T. that they look cool displayed.

This is a vintage forum, but Yamaha makes some great wood shell ply snares! I have 3 of theirs in the lineup...it's all about player's drums! No point in having stuff sit on a shelf to gaze at!

i had a couple of snares vintage or new, acrolite 69, slingerland cob from 70s, premier hr9, some pdp etc... but right now the ones i use is just 2 snares almost all the time...

and one snare that is done by old ways... hollowed log ash snare 13x6"

also note that it has brass tube lugs that are just like on the picture, not laquered... this is that snare, but wood hoops are laquered... if i could just find 13" brass hoops that are for 8 lug snare i would buy it, but it is immpossible...

I have 35 at the moment, 22 are Rogers ranging from 1963-1984, Dynasonic, Powertone, and Superten, wood and metal. I also have a couple 400 Supras, a Black Beauty SS, a couple of Acros, and a 6.5 Ludalloy SS. They all sound great, ANY of them would be a good choice on most days.

While you're at it - I've just determined that my vintage 1970 Ludwig snare is a Super-Sensitive 6 1/2 x 14, 10 lug, triple chromed, all steel. What's the general consensus on its sound and value versus all of the other Ludwig snares, supra-phonic etc.?

Not impossible, you just didn't know where to look!

thanks... i was looking on that site for hoops, over a year ago, but i have missed it or thay didnt have that at that time? now... how to remove chrome from hoops?

I've been dedicated to a late '60's Dyna that I bought in the early '90s. I actually only put it back to original (original snare frame set-up) a couple of years ago. It was like playing a completely different snare drum. I just picked up a '79 Slingerland Festival COS that also sounds amazing. I'll probably be swapping them out regularly while I decide which one suits me best.
