Looking for 1920s examples, painted Bass Drum Heads Last viewed: 0 seconds ago

I don't have anything that old, but seeing your topic and the "cool" icon I immediately thought of this...I acquired some used drum heads years ago, and among them were a 20" plastic and 22" calfskin that were both hand-painted with the logo you see below (picture is the calf head). Probably from the early 1960's period. It appears to be tempera paint, and if I read my "pictographs" correctly I think it stands for "Joe Cool" but I can't be certain.Jeff

Are you sure these heads didn't come from this "Joe Cool?" Look at how the glasses match!

Mikey-Yes, I've not the resources to obtain any old catalogs from that era,... at least I have not run into any thus far.I see them on ebay from time to time, but from other eras and the asking prices are a bit zany.I'd appreciate any and all info and assistance you may be able to provide! Always happy to learn more about history!!Help2

I've identified that my "oil-painted color scene" is called "Spanish Dancers" from a 1927 Ludwig catalog pic on this website. I didn't even know it was there until I brought it home and took the drum apart. . . Was being used as a coffee table and I bought it at an estate sale for $200. Measures 28"x16" and has 12 brass tension rods. I'm not a drummer so I don't know what I'm looking at. Any info would be greatly appreciated. There are two ebay sellers right now with different painted heads from this same era. . . search Ludwig bass drum and you'll see them

I wonder why there were so many bucolic scenes (windmills, lakes etc.)

BTW, Chick Webb's painted bass drum attached.
