Hi everyone. As many of you know, I've been a Luddy guy for the longest time. Last year, I picked up my first Gretsch kit (SSB), and I love it for certain situations. Lately, I've had a real yen for a Rogers kit and was hoping to get some good advice from the Rogers fans on the forum. I've been seeing lots of Dayton era stuff at reasonable prices lately, and I think that's where I might end up. I've also been seeing different size configurations and I hear that the 20" bass drums are simply amazing! I notice most are 13,16,20 (some with 22, but less common as I've seen). I've also seen 12,13,16,20. I generally prefer a 4 piece set up, but I could be swayed to go 5 piece since it wouldn't be my main kit and it would add some versatility. Looking for general comments and opinions. Also, does the same hold true for Rogers as it does with Luddy where 4 piece configurations are a bit more sought after than 5 piece configurations? Oh, and I have a lonely Dayton era cob Powertone that would love to have some company :). Thanks for reading!

Cleveland or early Dayton, that is what you want, beavertails , and it probably will become your number one kit.... good luck.
I have a very nice Rogers kit in Koa, 1970. 22-13-16, with matching snare. The snare was recovered with matching wrap from a donor drum.
$800 including the snare, including shipping...

I was actually on the hunt for a Rogers kit to start this vintage kick when I stumbled on my Ludwig. I believe this kit started at $599 and is now at $799.
Anyway I am not sure how large the sound difference is vs. my Sonor Prolites which have a very similar shell design.

There is a matching numbers Rogers kit with snare and hardware at a music store in town. They are asking $1200. I guess it might be a good price!
