I would welcome some opinions here, what shells/ply are best for Loud rock music.........
Loudest shells Last viewed: 1 hour ago
70's Pearl Fiberglass Ivory
6 ply Ludwigs or Sonor Phonics (9 ply beech).....
Or microphones on what you have...
Carbon Fiber!
Silver Sparkle!
Someone had to say it. Might as well be me.
Metal shell drums if you can stand the ringiness are loud at the expense of having good tone.
LOL Howie.........:Santa:
I can second the vote for six-ply Luddies--they're great mic'ed or un. I'm working on an early '70s pearl wood-Fiberglass kit now that I'm curious to hear in that very setting.
1982 Ludwig Classic in white Cortex, 24-13-14-18 + Coliseum snare
For quieter gigs:
Early '70s Whitehall Tiger Eye Pearl 20-12-14-14
Neglected but thinking about:
Early '70s Sonor Champions in Rosewood, 22-12-13-16
Oh, and make those Luddies big. My rock kit's a 24" kick, 12x13 and 13x14 rack toms, and a 16x18 floor tom paired with a Coliseum snare.

i have always heard that vistalites are the loudest...
A vendor had some carbon fiber drums at the Chicago show years back, and you could hear them over EVERYTHING in the show!
Rob Cook told him to leave actually,as they were so loud!

LOL - Silver Sparkle...
I've not played these at a gig, just goofing around with a friends some time back... Pearl's fiberglass coated interiors... wow! Huge noise from them. Also the solid fiberglass kits. I owned an A. F. Blaemire (think that's how it's spelled) fiberglass kit from the 70's. Those were some LOUD drums. Sold 'em... they weigh a ton.
