Ludwig Blue Sparkle Drums Last viewed: 6 hours ago

Loading...

I picked up this keystone badge Ludwig kit in blue sparkle for $350. It has the 3ply clear interiors with a 13, 16, 20. It came with the original rail mount, but I took it off.

The kick and mounted tom have discoloration on one side from being left by a window, the kick being the worst.

Anyone know how to remedy this short of a re-wrap? Thanks.

Any thoughts? Also, did Ludwig offer these sizes as a kit? I couldn't find anything in there catalogs.

It seems to me that fade, as opposed to dirt/buildup would be impossible to reverse. But maybe someone has a trick...

thats a nice kit, 20"bass usually dont come with 13&16 toms do they?

John V has a thread coming soon of a faded kit, i wonder if your kit will need the same treatment?

Someone mentioned 1500-2000 then buff it like crazy (or something like that)

anyway...just thinking out loud. still....nice kit.

If the rail mount was on the drum, I don`t think they would look that bad.(from the pics) I would do the Novis treatment on them and then put the rail back on. At least you would not see what color the wrap was originally. Fade = cool mojo in sometimes.

yeah, i agree...I'd put the rail mount back on after treatment too.

if it came from factory with the mount, then it belongs there. even if you dont use it.

I took the rail mount off and put it on my Club Date kit until I can find all the parts for the one I have for the Club Date.

I believe the 20" bass drum was an uncatalogued option with the Super Classic set. By the 1971 catalog it does state the 20" option.

You could order up whatever combination of drums you wished to. The catalog sets were just suggestions/starting points so a 13/16/20 is just as valid as any other combination. It was simply someone's desire to have a set like that.

If that's crud on the surface of the wrap it should clean/polish off. If it's UV damage inside the outer blue tinted layer of wrap then you're probably stuck. There are some drastic methods some people try (wet sanding) with mixed results and the potential for causing further damage.
