Been there before. My first set was a gold sparkle Club Date. I sold them to finance a newer set. Always regretted that sale but 30 some years later I was able to buy them back (my same set). I won't be letting them go again anytime soon.

Congrats on getting yours (or very close) back as well.

Can totally relate. Gold sparkle Ludwigs are beautiful. Do yours have double telescoping spurs like K.O.'s? K.O., do you remember ordering double spurs way back when?.........marko

They were far from new when I got them so I don't know exactly how these were ordered. The drums are pre-serials with a 1962 date stamp in the 13". All I originally had was the bass drum (20") and tom (13"). The rest of the matching drums I added to the set after getting my initial two back (and that 16" is a "clone" I built of the incredibly rare and uncataloged 16" club date). I suspect the set originally had a hoop mounted tom holder and someone added the rail later on. I think this because the rail is chrome and a two hole mount while the two drums are nickel plated. Whether the four spurs are all original I can't say although they do all appear to match and the holes line up so they probably are "factory".

I initially got these from an upperclassman (I was in 7th grade he was a freshman) who had just bought a new Slingerland set. This was in 1973 so the drums were already 11 years old. I used them with my WFL WMP snare and a borrowed floor tom (converted 20's marching tenor). I sold them a little over a year later to help finance my own upgrade (Ludwig Hollywood set). I sold them to the Music Parents Association for what I had paid for them ($150). They were left at the Junior High building for that band program to use. Apparently they didn't get used all that much, when I got them back in 2007 (for $300) they still looked the same as when I had previously owned them, same heads and everything, although the speed king and cymbal arm had gone missing. I spruced them up and finished out the set with drums of similar vintage (except for that 16" which was made from an early 70's shell).

Nothing but cool man!

April 2nd 1969 scarfed pink champagne holly wood and 65/66 downbeat snare, and , supra same year very minty kit old pies
66/67 downbeat with canister
Super 400 small round knob
1967 super classic obp

once the brass ceases to glitter, and the drum looses its luster, and the stage remains dark, all you have left is the timbre of family.

I reckon "Rubber Band" was a real popular band name in the 70's...

( and on lead male vocal... "Mr Soccer".. Les Murray)
