Ludwig Jazzette Question Last viewed: 1 hour ago

I have the opportunity to acquire a 1965 or so Ludwig Club Date style lug kit in black lacquer in Jazzette sizing. 12x18 bass, 8x12, 14x14, and pioneer snare. I am not a Ludwig guy but these seemed to be somewhat rare in the sizes listed and I love collecting bop kits. What are your thoughts on a kit like this? Many around or?

Super 400 small round knob
1967 super classic obp

once the brass ceases to glitter, and the drum looses its luster, and the stage remains dark, all you have left is the timbre of family.

Jazzette's are very scarce to begin with but I've never seen one with Clubdate-style lugs. Would love to see some photos of that. Sight unseen it sounds like something rare to go for. Good luck!

Still, the 18x12 bass drum could be worth some dough (and should sound amazing).

Why are Jazzette's so scarce? Ludwig only made to order? Weren't they being made for a number of years, like 68-74 and then again for a few years in the late 70's?

Sorry in advance with all those questions but it's something I've been wondering about for awhile since also looking for at least a 18 x 14 kick drum.

Ludwigs were mostly played by "rock guys" back then and Gretsch got the "jazz guys".....at least that's the way everybody understands it today. Ludwig Jazzette kits are rare due to them not being very popular when they were new. They were cataloged for years, offered for years, but ordered in limited numbers. Plus Ringo played a Downbeat kit, then later a Super Classic kit........so why would anyone want to play an even smaller sized Ringo kit? :p

So offered by special order it sounds like but available for a number of years.

Pretty cool that there seems to be tons of 20x14 kicks around at least!

Thanks LD :)

I saw a Thermogloss Clubdate "Jazzette" for sale on the Bay Area like three years ago. The guys was asking $4 grant. A friend of mine went to check it out and it was a legit set. A rare bird for sure. Wish I had had the dought at the time.
