Thanks Dennis.

Now you've got a nice set of photos for use when selling it. As I said before, I was happy enough with the identification, but just giving the full set of things one looks for. The more details you can tick on that list, the better the identification for potential buyers. There are many individual things which make COB "more likely" (eg small knob muffler or crimped snare beds), but since there are "one in a thousand" counterexamples to each of them lurking somewhere...well, with Ludwig it pays to never say never. Yes Sir

I'm still holding out hope that once I get enough data I can write up just using the full dressed weight and how accurate that might be. It isn't a top priority for me at the moment (I've still got Avedis stamps on the brain) but it is there in the queue. I'm always on the lookout for simpler ways for us to be able to identify things without using destructive tests, and without having to have expensive tools.

Oh, and John. I'm with you on senior brain freeze. For example I couldn't recall "crimped" to describe the snare beds. That's why I'm trying to create web pages for everything I work on. That was I can go and read it later so I remember what I found out. Getting old is not for the young and inexperienced. We need cunning.

Looks like the bearing edge curves back so you have COB.

That was a deal of a lifetime there.

Yes I am beginning to understand how Great this find is and feel very Fortunate! Now I need to locate a couple decent imperial lugs as a couple on the drum are rough and a few era correct tension rods and I will be in great shape. What are the best sounding heads for this Vintage Snare Drum and snare wires?

From Purdie Shuffle

Dennis - it's a Chrome Over Brass Ludwig Super. After you take it apart and detail it, if there are no scratches, dents, or dingers anywhere you can ask anywhere from $650./$700 to $950+ for a real clean one. The more dents and dingers, the price goes down accordingly. Have no doubt, you made one of the best scores reported here in the forum so far this year. A couple of guys made incredible scores, but so far, yours tops them all. $35. for a pre-serial COB... start playing the lottery!John

John after looking at the video Zenstat posted on this thread and doing a bit more research my question is to be a Real Ludwig Super or Super Ludwig wouldn't the Imperial lugs need to be the heavy cast lugs that have the smaller center design? Also is there anyway to accurately know if my snare is 1960,61,62 or 63?

Thank You; Dennis
