Later today iam going to checked out these drums. This is a long one to read. These are in a newspaper near me so i called the ad.talked to the guy and ask about the drums. The guy told me that he got this set in 1969 new for his son.The sizes are 14x20,8x12,14x14,5x14 matching snare he told me that they are blue in color so that would make them Blue mist. Then i asked about the condition and if any cymbals come with the set.He went ahead and told me that the drums to him were in good condition .I asked about any missing parts he said that the rings are missing from three of the drums. So i asked if any other parts were missing from the drums as far as lugs ete.He did not know what i was talking about he asked me what are lugs i told him that the lugs are the chrome pieces that hold the rims on the drum along with T-rods that are chrome. That the drums should have two sets of lugs on each drum top and bottom. He said oh their is only one lug on the drums then i said oh the bottom ones must be missing you should see two holes werethe lugs should be.He said no holes at the bottom of the drums. So i asked were are the lugs on the drums he said they are in the middle..So did Ludwig make Standard drums with the"Club Date" set-up lugs on them???? Mikey,Sounds like a club date kit to me as Ludwig did not make a standard kit with center lugs......You just gotta go and check em out.......Good luck......
The drums you're describing could have come from a Standard, "Single Six" set, made of 4 concert toms, concert bass, & a snare. c.1968-70
Both vinny and tdennis have good theories. With a less drum-knowledgeable seller, it is really hard to tell without pictures or being there with the drums. It will be pretty clear what you have once you see them.
If he can tell you the badge style, that would answer many questions.
rickKeep on Pl
Gretsch drums with serial numbers,
Ludwig Keystone and B/O badge drums with serial numbers and date stamps,
Ludwig Standards from 1968-73, and
Ludwigs with paper labels from 1971-72

I went and did check out the set today...Yes it is a Ludwig Standard set.It had the right shape badges that said L/S black and chrome..The lugs on the set on all drums are center lugs and they are snare drum lugs.So this would be the only set i have ever seen...The drums had the right tom mounts and bass drum plate the one side of the bass drum had T-rods that you would find on the Club date bass drums...All drums had the date stamp Oct.7 1969..The color is "Blue Mist"..I did make an offer the guy said he had another guy coming to look at them...The seller wanted 650.00 for them i offered 600.00 cash......Mikey
Sounds like they would be worth about $600, so hopefully the other bloke doesn't want them!
Was the condition good?
almost sounds like something along the educator line...

Aww man... did you happen to get pictures of the kit? That is one strange kit with single snare lugs...
The Ludwig Standard S-340 'Single Six' stack-able kit used normal single ended 'tom' lugs on the bass and toms, so that wasn't it.

The lugs were double ended snare lugs. The same used on the Standard snares..I wish i did get some photos of the set but i did not...I was a fool not to take the set at the asking price....Mikey
