Ludwig Super Classics Last viewed: 23 minutes ago

I have a Ludwig Super Classic set. The bass drum spurs are curved retractable spurs, meaning they retract into the shell. The are curved and pointed on the ends, no rubber tip. The badge number says 728372. There are no extra holes and they look original, Are these the correct spurs for this set?

Depends.. What is the finish of your kit ? If you know your Ludwig vintage drums, you can easily tell .. I know that retractable curved spurs came out around 1970 and were pretty much standard on most 70's kits. Check out the http://www.vintagedrumguide.com/..

They have most catalogs from Ludwig's complete history..

This is great for determining what year your drums are, what type of hardware was used in those eras, etc.. If i know my vintage Ludwig history, i would say that those spurs are period correct for Super classics..

They are a gorgeous White Marine Pearl. They have keystone badges.

I had a drum shop tell me that these were not original. I believe they are, and the store was trying to get a better price on the set. I did not go for it.

I have a 1992 8 page "catalogue" (more like a supplement) that has Super Classic drums and it clearly shows the bass drums with two sets of the curved retractable spurs. It also shows Rockers with the Rocker spurs that would later be added to the Super Classics and Classics as they are shown in my 1994 catalogue (the one with the blue and purple marble finish set on the front and back cover). I also have a 1988 catalogue that shows pretty much the same, but upon further inspection, it does show the traditional sized kits as having one set of the curved retractable spurs and the power sized kits having two sets. Both Classic and Super Classic are shown in this catalogue as well. Hope that helps. Your kit, if it does not have any extra drilled holes could be a mid to late 80's or very early 90's 4 ply (maple, poplar, poplar, maple) SC.

Can you post any pics? Sounds like a mid to late 1969 set. Those curved spurs came out around mid 1969. I'll bet the set is original. Check inside for a date stamp.

My 1979/80 Ludwig power sized set has two sets of retractable curved spurs on the basses which are heavy duty,no bass movement with those babies.

Your serial number drum appears to be from 1969 according to dating guides. That was the first year that 5/16" curved spurs were introduced. The mount fits the same size holes as the gull wing/tom mount. If they are the larger 1/2" spurs then they are not correct.

Thanks to all who answered my post! I have tried to download pics but the upload failed. The pics may be too large. Has anyone had this problem with pics uploading?
