Ludwig Vistalite Smoke Project Last viewed: 3 hours ago

Here's my kit's story;

In 1998 my dad came home with a vintage ludwig vistalite drum kit he bought down the street at a garage sale for $25 for me. He had no idea what thier value was, but knew a drumset was worth more than $25. At the time I was playing a cheap CB kit and this was a monster upgrade. Joined a band shortly after and the kit got a lot of use and played out plenty. At some point I gravitated toward guitar and as life changed my drums were stored in my parents basement from 2005-2012. When I moved out of state I took the kit with me, with intention to get them back to "playing" status.

As you can see, I was missing a lug from the bass drum, a couple claws and T-rods, spurs, and most of my hardware was broken. athe kit needed some TLC. I started by purchasing a snare stand and replacing my missing ride. Then I began disassembling everything, polishing and cleaning.

Upon taking apart the bass drum, I realized that it is 20 inches! I had always assumed it was 22"?

even crazier, the original owned had glued a sound muffler inside. This took hours of work to remove. Never thought I'd be in the shower with my bass drum. Eventually, it and the other drums cleaned and polished up nice. I purchased the missing hardware and replaced broken stands. Found some spurs from a super classic kit, and added some new heads to the snare and bass drums.

Here's where I am now. Great memories with this kit and they look/sound better than ever. Any comments appreciated. I plan to add a few upgrades and a time correct snare in the future.

Nice job on the resto,I don't think I have ever seen a 20" vistalite BD, never seen a vista with fold up spurs either,makes sense,less drilling on a vista shell.

Back in the 90s I had a blue vistalite 20" with a rail mount and fold up spurs. Never seen another like it.

If I were to guess I would go with the 1980-ish timeframe. Ludwig started putting large lugs on 12" toms around then and smoke also came out at the tail end of the vistalite 70's era. Nice job on the resto!
