Can anyone shed some light on this snare from the 80's I believe, I know it was made by pearl under cb700, but that's all I was able to find out, I do remember seeing one on ebay 6 years and was sold for $433, but that's all I can gather and I never seen one in the flesh other than the one I have? whats cool is that it has a 4 dial strainer adjustment, and the strainer doesn't use nylon strap or string, uses a screw.

Our fiddle player down at our jamhole used to be a drummer. He has told me about a cb snare he had once. He said it was called a full floating snare. I have never seen one, is this what you have?

Sure it's not from the 80's????, I've never seen another one either, even the guy from drumatix who gets every imaginable snare ever made said he's only had one in the years he's been dealing with vintage snares. you can hear the snare on my myspace page, not me on drums, I'm playing bass on the song and my buddy playing my kit in my studio with this snare, I think this thing really shines.
here's our version of a cover tune from ((RUSH))), song is called La Villa
When Pearl started to make C.B.700 drums in 1974-5 they came out with that lug and used it to about 1985.Also the lugs were used on other names Pearl made at the time. The badge is what i call a trans badge the first badges on C.B.700's had a silver out line around the edge of badge they used that to late 1979 then in 1980 they change the badge to all black so you drum is from the starting of 1980[ i hit the wrong key wanted to hit 8 not 7].So you drum is from 1980 too 1985..The shell is chrome over steel i can check if you like and see what year or two they made that snare, the snare was a short live snare it never sold many copys..Oh just wanted to add this pearl in 1974 came out with a Jupiter snare drum it was a parallel action strainer it had the bar inside the drum.Your c.b.700 is the lower end of that snare but it's still a good sounding drum..Mikey

Thanks MIKEY777, That's has me wondering why it never took off cause that 4 dial adjust for the strainer is really awesome and can really fine tune the strainer. if you could find out what you can would be great, I figured it was from the 80's, cause I got around then.

Man you guy's are simply incredible finding all this stuff
Wow , so many years later, This snare I love and most clients end up using this snare, even a few put aside their black beauty for some songs. I was wondering if there's anywhere I can get replacement wires, or maybe a custom made strainer for it?
I know cannon has the Cannon UP20-3 Power Snares, tha might wires, still researching the actual size.
THANKS
I didn't think Pearl had anything to do with CB. I thought CB was a separate company and was owned by Kaman music since the early '80s ( Maybe sooner ) From my understanding they invented the Free Floating snare that Pearl uses. I've seen a few CB models and they go for a lot. Seemed like they had some great designers, but were a basic company so their market couldn't afford a super high end snare. But Pearl clients could. Again I could be off base, but by the '70s it seemed that Tama,Pearl,etc.. were no longer using stencil names to try new things. They just went for it. Also found this from TommyP on another thread related to CB.
The CB in CB700 stands for Charles Bruno which was a GIANT music distribution company based out of CT back in the 70's. The suffix 700 is the model number which as many of you know, was the ONLY model that Charles Bruno offered in their entry level/budget line. CBruno also did a big business with drum sticks back in the day. Interestingly, CBruno was bought by the Kaman Corporation.. ( also in and still in CT ) .. which owns Gibraltar Hardware... Ovation guitars... and for a while, Gretsch. I believe that Kaman and Gretsch are still partnered in some capacity. Anyway, again: CB700... CBruno Co.Tommyp
So am I crazy? or was CB something that started in New England and wasn't by Pearl?
For the snare wires. If you can, take a photo of just the wires. Someone will likely know a maker and where to get then. It is a beautiful snare, name means nothing. It's all about the sound.
Not a Guru, just addicted to drums
