Meet a parts stripper yesterday, ugh :( Last viewed: 1 hour ago

I picked up a '76 Rogers Londoner kit yesterday (minus Dyna) locally.

I kind of 'know' this guy, he's a big time Craigslist drum flipper.

Noticed in weeks past that he had some Rogers shells in blue onyx that were stripped for sale on CL. I also know his eBay handle so I decided to take a look and see what he has up for sale. Low and behold tons of vintage BT lugs, claws, rods etc.

So after picking up the kit I gently asked if he was a parts stripper and he confidently responds yes! He even went on to explain how much more $ one can make from stripping perfectly good shells "since he knows how to do it". Eye Ball

I figured at the very least I saved a Rogers kit from getting stripped.

I probably wouldn't have gone out there in the first place knowing he really stripped those shells. For all I knew, maybe the shells were too far damaged so the only recourse was stripping.

Sad thing is I think I saw the Rogers blue onyx kit on CL a month or so ago, it too could have been saved. Sigh...

Drag. Effing with all of that mojo may get you a lot of money but I suspect drum karma won't be kind for this behavior. Save and play is much better than strip and flip.

Sad this happens. But we buy them, fix them and bring them back to former glory. So they can carry on for years to come. Would be nice if they just sold the dang things in 1 pc so we can keep them original from the start. :D

I know some people (wish I didn't) who will take one decent vintage guitar, and make a few phony vintage guitars out of it. The neck is part of one bogus vintage guitar. The body is part of another one. The pickguard with electroncs wiring harness is yet another fake vintage guitar. The individual pickups and pot(entiometer)s or the tuning machines can be parted out to make other phony vintage guitars. There are people at guitar shows who sell fake decals to put on fake guitar head stocks.

No matter how far you push the envelope, it is still stationery.

Has anyone else been creeped out by the eBay photos posted by the infamous drum stripper in Florida. They use purple satin as a background for the parts. That seriously reminds me of looking at a casket lining with the deceased parts laid out for the final viewing after being ripped from the host shell. Creepy...
