Mix Match Ludwigs Last viewed: 27 minutes ago

Check out these old Ludwigs I got out of my friends attic.

They don't belong to me but I want to check them out and fix them up some.

I remember these drums 25 years ago in my friends bedroom at his moms house.

They have been in the attic for at least 20 years.

He has another bass and 2 toms in another attic that I am going to try and get my hands on this coming week.

What I have now is kind of mix-match but they are still cool.

They are not in that bad of shape really.

The wrap is certainly yellowed but screw it. The bass drum has a 70's tom mount drilled into it of course.

I am going to try and find the correct tom mount for it.

The kick, the 13"x9" and the 16"x16" look like a set.

The 12" blue/olive badge is an add on with the dreaded tom mount.

The snare is a WFL that is stamped 1958 inside.

It has the wrong throw off on it too.

So it looks like a mix of 50's, 60's and 70's.

I can't wait to see what is in the other attic. x-mas3

So far I almost think the snare and kick are together.

They have the nickle hardware and the WFL logos on them.

The serial numbers on the toms put them 2 years apart according to the timeline on this site.

I don't understand how this is a kit.

It's all pieced together. Hurting

Doesn't matter, they are beautiful drums from a great era of Ludwig drum building. Those drums are going to clean up a real treat! I bet you lose a bunch of that yellowing on clean-up. Please post 'after' photos. I want to see how these come out. Great score!

Yeah, I will.

I'm not really counting the blue/olive into the equation right now.

I just want to make a 4 piece out of it. :)

The bass drum hoops look like they are in good shape.

They have a few battle scars but the inlay is intact. Excited

They look kind of like a set of Super Classics I think.

If anyone has any ideas as to what these really are please chime in. :)

Hey guys,

What is the best thing to clean the wrap with.

This will be my first resto/cleanup job.

What ever I do I don't want to mess them up.

I know what to do with the metal.

It's the wrap I'm worried about.

And also if anybody has the correct tom rail for these that they would like to sell please let me know. :D

Use this on that wrap. You're in for a surprise!

Just the powerball and polish, you won't need the pads. Save the pads for doing the headlights on your car!
