My 2nd Dynasonic on its way - question regarding rubber end caps Last viewed: 1 second ago

Loading...

Hello again,

And thanks Dan and Heraldo for your kind comments.

I just received the drum. It seems to be in fine condition, considering its age. It looks like someone tried to scratch out the text "Serial No" on the badge. And then there is a not very long nor deep scratch on one panel, but apart from that everything seems in splendid condition.

Dan, the hoops are indeed deeper than later hoops, I compared them to my Big R hoops. Also, true what you say about the rods: thread and shank ratio identical. The rods look very much like the ones on my Big R. I know nothing about the strainer, it says Patent Pending on it.

One thing though: the snares are a botch-job, some kind of Frankensnare setup with cheap steel wires and chord. It is useless. The frame seems fine, however, so now I need to know if the Puresound wires will fit this frame. Can somebody confirm this, please?

I will post pics later. Now I will disassemble it for a Dawn bath overnight.

OK, so here are some pics of the snare frame. It says Patent Pending on it, too, so I guess it is an early specimen. Now, what I want to know is if (please!) the Puresound wires will fit this frame. Also, one of the screws for fastening the snare wires is very small. Is this original? As far as I remember, both screws on my Big R snare frame are big.

I would be very very grateful for a quick yes or no on the Puresound wires.

The drum is having its bath now. I have ordered a Puresound wire. As far as I can tell it should fit. While taking the drum apart I noticed something that may or may not be an issue: I am not sure the shell is completely in round. The heads that came with it fit nicely on the bottom side. On the batter side, however, there is some binding. I tried to measure any out-of-roundness, but couldn't. I would have preferred it if the batter side head would turn nicely and easily, though.

Other than that, the drum looks really great for its age. I am going to fit it with Diplomat Coated batter and Ambassador Hazy snare side. Funnily, Diplomat Coated seem to be rarely used in Scandinavia, and I may have to wait until beginning of June for one to arrive...

I have a dynasonic frame that I don't need, if you get stuck let me know. I bought a dyna last year but couldn't get it to work right so I exchanged it for a supra. The frame I had doesn't have those plastic ends, I got it from Al drews music. Yours hopefully will be ok though.

Thanks for the extremely kind offer. I will gratefully and happily take you up on it, if my own frame doesn't perform.

Sorry to hear that you didn't get your Dyna set up correctly. I have a Big R Dyna that ousted my hammered bronze Supra once I got it dialed in. The supra is great, too, and I will not part with it. But right now, I'm a Dyna Man...

Congrats on the deal you got on that 7 line Dynasonic. Looks like a great drum. I prefer the 7 line over the 5. It seems to be brighter and a bit more crisp when comparing the side by side.

The Puresounds should fit fine, and in fact, enhance the sound of the drum with a fresh set of heads. I have never heard of a Dyna being out of round unless it was dropped. If the bottom is fine, the top should be as well. The binding you mentioned is somewhat normal. I have cleaned and set up probably 10 in my day, and several had that issue, yet not affecting the drum or sound.

Good luck! You will love it!Cool1

Gen three frame. Puresound Dyna-Sonic wires fit this just fine.

Hi schmegeggie and The Ploughman,

And thanks for confirming the binding and the Puresound wires.

I have now reassembled the drum after its bath and put the heads on that came with it (an ok Ambassador coated and a damaged reso head) and tuned it up roughly. It seems to tune up properly, so I guess I will not have to worry about the shell and/or rims being out of round.

Awaiting the arrival of the heads I ordered and the Puresound wire, the drum now rests without the snare frame attached. Here are some pics from this afternoon, with it fresh out of its bath.

Magnus congrats on the new 7 liner Dyna. A beauty she is and really good price. I remember reading somewhere (here probably) about some of the COB Dyna shells being out of round from the factory. I forgot about it until I read your post. I'll try to find the info and post it.
