My B-day gift to myself (Ludwig hammered copper) Last viewed: 10 minutes ago

Loading...

This little hammered copper 13" x 3" has been taunting me for a week now on my local classifieds. I couldn't just leave it there! I'm assuming it's early to mid '80's" If anybody could bestow some knowledge upon me that would be much appreciated. Though I may leave shell in it's present state of patina, any cleaning tips for the shell would be useful. I kinda remember people talking here about having to remove lacquer on the shell first. I would rather live with the patina than go crazy though.

Sound-wise: I'm surprised at what this little wonder can do at low-medium tunings. Cranked up it's got lot's of crack, which isn't surprising, but I wanted a shallow snare with potentially medium tuning that I can put in a case with a shallow floor tom for smaller gigs.

I've seen a few proud owners of hammered copper luddies on here. Purdieshuffle: I know you love yours! Anybody own this model?

You scored! Hammered bronze is the one you want. I rave about mine every chance I get. Enjoy it, it's one versatile drum. Watch out it doesn't become your go-to snare! They're that good. Excellent buy!!!

... and, Happy B-day! Party

John

Too many great drums to list here!

Hammered Bronze. The copper ones introduced at this years NAMM show aren't out yet and so far Ludwig hasn't offered a 3" nor a hammered option in that metal. I have a smooth bronze 3x13, great sounding snares.
