My Friend Has Died Last viewed: 14 hours ago

I have just returned from my guitar player's home. Tomorrow we have a big charity gig and we were scheduled to tear down and pack up equipment. Before we began, my friend and lead guitarist informed me that our very first guitar player had died of cancer. John L played with me when we were fourteen year old kids. John was at last year's gig with his wife and we all knew he had this horrible desease. My current band even donated to a benefit for him in August. John was a talented and humble man. We got through the afternoon but, all I could think of was my old friend. Tomorrow, the concert will be dedicated to John.

I'm not such a tough guy. I am now holding back tears. I would give everything I own including every old drum to see him again.

Thank you for allowing me to vent. I consider all of you my friends.

I'm truly sorry for your loss.Just remember,we all deal with grief in different ways so if crying helps, then just let it out.

When I was younger,I didn't cry at all, now, after losing a son in the 80's,I cry at the drop of a hat.

It's all good, and certainly not a sign of weakness for a man to do so.

Again,my condolences.

For me, anyway, the memories of the people I have played in bands with are the strongest. I have lost a female vocalist, guitar player and keyboard player (who could play anything after hearing it ONCE, in any key),from my list of fellow musicians. It makes me ache that I'll never play with them again...I know where you are at.:(
