My new drums! 1966/67 Ludwig Superclassic Last viewed: 48 minutes ago

Hi all, super stoked to tell you about a dream kit I just picked up in Ontario, special thanks to Mitch (Downtown Farmer) for the heads up on these. Beautiful silver (now luscious ginger-ale) sparkle Ludwig Superclassics! 22/13/16 which are the best sizes for the music I'm playing these days.

The serial numbers on the tom and floor are late '66 (white paint inside shells) and the bass drum is early '67 (clear inside shells). I was born in late '66 and this is pretty special to me.

Here are some pics. Any details you gurus can provide is always welcome. It's a players kit which is good, because I'm gonna play 'em. It's also good because I got them for a players price. Need to do a little ply repair in the bass drum and I have some mufflers and minor hardware to replace (one came with the kit, unattached, along with the wrench.) NO EXTRA HOLES, unmolested.

I have some beers for Downtown Santa Farmer and some 20 inch skins for his Club Date kit. x-mas3

So glad you were able to snag them John! I'm a Jameson's man, but I'll take those 20" heads! :)

I have some extra classic brackets too, noticed the one for the cymbal L-arm was missing....

Congratulations, and yeah lets get those attachments up, can't wait!

Thanks Human71! There was someone else who was coming the day after I got there. I had a friend in the town... He was able to get them for me. $650 CAD = $470 USD

Hey Mitch, how are you fixed for Ludwig parts? Do these hoops look original to everyone? Cheers! x-mas2

I only have extra classic brackets. Even if you don't use a cymbal arm it'd be nice to cover them holes with the correct bit. So cool it came with a rail mount...

The top rim on the 13" looks like the ears are too wide for Ludwig, but I could be wrong. The bottom rim and both rims on the floor tom are either Rogers or, more likely, since the ears are completely rounded, the *excellent* MIJ copies of such, or possibly Kent. I've used the MIJ copies on my Ludwigs and they look and perform just great. Nice tall upper flange, very small lip on the bottom and those awesome rounded ears...:)

It looks like the batter hoop on the BD is not Ludwig, maybe Gretsch or Slingerland as the inlay looks wider than 1/2". Minor details all - you can take your sweet time replacing or leave as is. Just a great score and looking forward to seeing them in person...

[edit] That yellowish discolouration on the tom is rash, where the top layer is worn off a bit. I have that on my Club Dates and it can be disappeared by applying a bit of clear coat - Krylon glaze or similar product. I'd use a Q-tip for application. Now, I don't mean to be a dink, but it sure looks like the BD badge was a B/O and replaced with a keystone - the outline of adhesive for a B/O seems present....still, it wouldn't bither me a bot. :)

[edit 2] It looks like the washer for the upper clamp on the rail mount arm is on the tom bracket [two of em there], probably should put that back where it belongs, and get a better washer for the lower clamp, and probably take off the arm and turn it around, as the nuts should face the player...I think that's all :)
