That's the rare "Lyre" badge. I had a bass drum / snare student outfit with those badges. Pretty rare and only made for one year, 1937, according to this site.

Micky...When I read your post on this set, I remembered reading about that year(1937&38). So, I dug out the book and got some details. Bill sr. had just opened new company on Damen Ave. in Chicago. Says they really struggled, took 9 mo. to get tooled up and get going.Called it Wm. F. Ludwig. Then Bill jr. came into the picture in 1938. 1939 they changed name to WFL Drum Company. It shows some pictures of outside of building and some of the inside with a dozen or so guys in the wood and machine shop. You know all this I'm sure. Looking at the pictures you can almost see your drum set being made. Very cool ! Enjoy...Take care.
